Why would anyone in their right mind make a fake topping from scratch??? Besides isn't one of the ingredients Kryptonite?

Whip up some heavy cream. place cream, bowl and whisk in freezer for 15 minutes. Beat until peaks form, add powdered sugar to taste.

You need to buy heavy whipping cream. the only way to get that from scratch is to have a cow. anyway you use the electric mixer. pour cream into the bowl mix on high and add granulated sugar maybe 1/2 a cup of sugar to 1 quart of heavy whipping cream. You keep mixing it on high and you can tell its done when its fluffy and airy

Take whipping cream, aka heavy cream, and put in in a high-sided bowl and put your mixer on high and whip it. This is BETTER than Cool-Whip. When it's about whipped (soft peaks form) add about 2 Tbsp. of sugar per 8 oz carton of cream and about 1 tsp. vanilla. Watch carefully so you don't overbeat it and make butter.

Cool Whip
1 (5 ounce) can evaporated milk, chilled
2 tablespoons cold water
1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons corn or safflower oil

Pour evaporated milk into a shallow tray, bowl or ice cube trays and place in the freezer until crystals begin to form around the edges.

While the milk is chilling, combine the gelatin and water in a dish, without stirring. Place the dish in a small saucepan or dish containing hot water and let stand until the gelatin dissolves - about 5 minutes. Remove dish from the hot water, stir the gelatin and allow to cool.

Beat the milk in a medium size bowl until stiff peaks form. Gradually add the sugar, oil, and then gelatin mixture. Continue beating until stiff peaks form again. Cover and place in freezer for 10 minutes, then transfer to refrigerator. The mixture will become very stiff.

Before serving, stir to soften. Will keep 3 days covered in refrigerator.

HOMEMADE COOL WHIP:

Ingredients:
1 teaspoon gelatin
2 teaspoons cold water
3 tablespoons boiling water
1/2 cup ice water
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons oil

Directions:

Chill a small mixing bowl. Soften gelatin with 2 teaspoons cold water, then add boiling water, stirring until gelatin is completely dissolved. Cool until tepid. Place ice water and nonfat dry milk in the chilled bowl. Beat at high speed until mixture forms stiff peaks. Add sugar, still beating, then oil and gelatin. Place in freezer about 15 minutes then transfer to refrigerator until ready for use. Stir before using to retain creamy texture.
