I am starting to read the bible again and trying to start praying again. I am a severe back-sliding christian trying to come back after about 7 years away. Actually, I only went to church for about 2 years after I accepted Christ. When God says "I will send you the Holy Spirit to help you" is that the same as like what Syliva Brown refers to as "your spirit guide"????I got caught up and fascinated with all of this psychic and paranormal stuff and Sylvia always reads and talks about us all having spirit guides so is the talking about the Holy Spirit??????I'm trying very hard to figure all this stuff out. Thank you.

The Holy Spirit may, or may not, be the same as your spirit guide. This is because there are several spirits trying to guide us. There are many kinds of spirits attempting to influence us with their thoughts. It depends upon which one you desire to listen to that will enable a specific spirit to guide you. In order to attract the Holy Spirit to you, you will need to desire only good and turn your back upon any evil.

You do well to investigate the psychic and paranormal because these things do exist. However, I would caution you not to be too quick to believe "professional" psychics as most, if not all, are frauds only out to make a quick buck. They deceive many because they have a lot of talent at fooling people in the same manner as magicians. Many, especially those who purport to talk with the so-called "dead," prey upon the bereaved. They have the same talents that kept people greasing the palms of Gypsy fortunetellers for years.

Well, no, the two are not the same thing, although you might find the Holy Spirit working with you using similar avenues of communication.

Generally, a spirit guide has an identity of a person, usually someone who has died. Others claim to have spirit guides who are angels, thus were never alive on earth, yet they have distinct identities and personalities.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, not someone else.

But....the Holy Spirit might be working with you through dreams, coincidences, insights, urges, and other means that many people say come from spirit guides.

You might want to consider finding a Christian spiritual director. Spiritual directors can help you process dreams and mystical experiences that are manifestations of the Holy Spirit in our lives because sometimes experiences of the Holy Spirit are not unlike paranormal experiences.

No it is NOT the same. A spirit guide is an evil spirit. Of course spirit guide sounds much better. You need to immediately STOP messing around in the occult. It is bad stuff and you will get into serious trouble if you continue to read and involve yourself in occultic practices. This is very much against all biblical teaching. You sound very confused. Does your church offer a class in discipleship? If not, you should find a good Bible-believing church where you can get into such a class. Spirit guides are used in many if not all other religions. The evil spirit takes on the form of something very nice and attractive ( a beautiful blond child for example) and then as you get pulled further and further in, it shows itself for what it is, but by then it is often too late for the person as it is controlling them. This is also not the best place to get help I am sure you will get some other answers telling you exactly the opposite to what I am telling you. So in light of that, read your Bible, ask God for guidance (not Yahoo answers or Sylvia Brown) and make more than a half-hearted effort to find a good church where you attend REGULARLY and can grow in Christ!!!

No, a spirit guide is not part of Christianity. the Holy Spirit may have similar characteristics as a spirit guide, but the major difference is that the Holy Spirit is a part of God while a spirit guide is not.

no

a spirit guide could be an evil spirit trying to decieve you

the Holy Spirit is a person who is God the Spirit

some consider Jesus God the Son who is the eternally generated idea of God who is also a person
and the Holy Spirit God the spirit who is eternally generated form the love betweenthe Father and Son... at least Jonathan Edwards did I believe

the picture is ... Jesus said I will not leave you as orphans... and ther ewas a helper... in the greek culture called a paraclete who went along tohelp, kinda a family lawyer on retainer... Jesus promised 'another paraclete' another helper

the first helper was Jesus
the second helper is the Holy spirit
both are called paraclete, the Holy Sprit 'another paraclete'

Jesus is the helper pulling for us in heaven by prayer
the Holy Spirit pullin for us on earth

its like havig your front and back covered

No, there is a distinct difference. The holy spirit is God in spirit form. God is an energy. Not a being in the sky.

Your spirit guide is the individual spiritual being (or beings) whom God sends you to guide you throughout your lifetime. They are not evil. They are there to assist you. They love you. I call upon mine all the time. We have angels and spirit guides with us at all times. They are our gifts from God.

The Holy Spirit is God. Leave Sylvia's understanding alone. It will hold you back from what God has in store for you.

NO, Lisa, she uses things that EVERYbody could say happened to them.
Your Holy Spirit was sent to live in you when you asked Christ to come into your heart. He convicts you when you do something wrong. He prompts you to open your heart in prayer when someone needs it. He is Jesus, inside of you.

The thing is, don't compare tv with the real thing.

Satan will try to deceive you and get you to get your mind off the Bible, because he does NOT want you to read it. He is a liar in every sense.
