Yes. but there are always exceptions. For instance, my fatehr ead in a book, all the poeple in those poor countries who have never heard of our god, will still eb saved. They find the lord in nature, and they can't help that no one ever told them.

But yes, they will go to Hell. Just being a good person means nothing if you don't know the Lord. Bceause, if you never knew the Lord, than he never had a relationship with you, and he was never able to use you. Everyone has a plan, a purpose on this world, God's plan for you. But if you don't let him use you, because you don't believe in him, you will be doomed

Here's what Christians who believe the Bible generally hold to: All have sinned against God. The only way to be reconciled to a holy God is to have Christ's righteousness imputed to us and our spirits infused with Him. This happens to people who accept Jesus as their Lord and savior (though some Christians argue as to which comes first). As to the second question, Bible-believing Christians generally believe because all have sinned against God, there are no truly wonderful (in the sense of sinless) people so the question implies an impossibility in the world view of a Christian.

These are all generalities, of course, and I'm sure there would be some who would disagree.

Who determines what qualifies a person as "wonderful" on earth? Unless that bar is set by God, it is subjective. In cannibal cultures it would be considered normal to eat people but it is a pretty atrocious thing to other cultures. If we are held to God's standards we all fall short. No one - no matter how good they seem in life DESERVE heaven. But God doesn't make us earn that right, He gives it as a gift through Jesus. It's free for the taking for anyone and everyone!

What makes a wonderful person? The fact that someone loves them and thinks they're wonderful? For every person who thinks you're a good person, there is someone else who will say the opposite because they have experienced a side of us that is NOT so wonderful, NOT so good and kind, kinda jerky at times.

Hitler had friends and family and people who thought he was the greatest guy on earth. He was man of the year in 1938 and brought Germany out of the Great Depression and did many great things for the people. Likewise, there's hundreds of thousands of people who think Bin Laden is a wonderful guy.

Now don't get me wrong; these two people are killers and destroyers and most people aren't. The point is, EVERYONE has someone in their lives who thinks they're wonderful, and EVERYONE has someone in their lives who knows better.

The truth is, every single one of us has made mistakes. We all have a bad side, we all have hurt people and we have all done things that we are ashamed of. So really, the question of being a good person who does wonderful things is a red herring.

The FACT is, no one is truly good, no one is truly righteous, no one is without fault or blame, and no one can say that they have lived perfect lives, except for Jesus, who is God in the flesh, and who lived that perfect life so that we didn't have to.

Just like Frodo and Sam in LOTR who had their elvin cloaks that hid them when they needed to be hidden, Jesus choosing to die on the cross for us provides a cloak of redemption for us, a way to cover our mistakes because we cannot cover them ourselves.

Jesus says to believe in Him, Trust that He is who He says He is and that He paid for our mistakes so that we don't have to. And He's not a man that He should lie.

If we trust Him as He tells us to, He will cover our mistakes, our transgressions, and we will not be judged and punished for them because He was judged and punished for them. If we choose NOT to accept that covering, we are on our own.

This is a very basic explanation of the term 'Salvation' that so catches people up. In today's society, you work and you gain, you work some more and you gain some more, you work even harder and you reap greater rewards. But Jesus says you don't have to work for Salvation, all you have to do is ask. In a society where "nothing is free," it seems ridiculous to think that salvation and forgiveness is free, but if you COULD work for it, His sacrifice was for nothing.

The truth is, no matter how much good we do in this world for some, we still do bad to others without even trying, even without realizing it. How do those things get undone? They don't. That's why we need forgiveness. That's why we need Salvation. That's why Jesus says He is the only way. Jesus said some hard things, but He's the only person who ever lived on this planet that did say them.

When 99 people are telling me it doesn't matter which way I go to get there, but one guy is telling me definitively that there's only one way? I'm listening to the one.

I hope this helps you.

Jesus plainly stated that he is the only way to heaven, no other religion offers such a direct and clear way of going to God. Jesus cannot return until the gospel is preached to the whole world so everyone can hear it> christians and non-christians alike have accepted and rejected Jesus' words>

No. We are all sinners continually living in a state of sin. We all, Christian and non-Christian alike, must wait until the day of judgment, when God will resurrect the dead and judge the nations of the world. Then he will take away the penalty of sin (death), which he has achieved through the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, build his Heavenly and eternal Kingdom, and anyone who is able to accept the judgment and the mercy will enter. Those who continue to blaspheme and curse and turn away from God will be cut off and destroyed by the fires of their own sin.

You can't earn your way into heaven. Salvation and eternity in heaven is a gift by the grace of God to those who accept the sacrifice Jesus made for us. That is why you can not earn it by good deeds. The only way to gain entry to heaven is through acceptance of Jesus Christ by praying to have forgiveness of sins and asking him to lead your life. So, in answer, yes

I think people who would answer "yes" are projecting their own personal desires and hatreds onto their religious beliefs.

One could argue that such people are also missing the point of religion: to lead a good life. Religion can help people to do that, but it is by no means a requirement. And we freethinkers would argue that for many people, religion does more harm than good. (Just look at all the mean-spiritedness found on the religious right!)
