I don't know. Have you considered looking at a pet from the humane society? In most places the animal would cost under $100 and will have been spayed or nuetered. If they don't get adopted they get destroyed.

If it's just a backyard breeder (the kind that advertise in the classifieds) who doesn't do any kind of genetic testing, and sells unregistered puppies - I'd expect to pay around $150-200.

If you purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder who has registered puppies and tests the parents for genetic issues likek hip dysplasia - Around $600 or up.

You might be able to contact a golden retriever rescue and be able to get a puppy or young dog for a decent price.

You also could check the local animal shelters - sometimes they have purebred dogs for a very reasonable adoption fee.

You could also check Petfinder.com (or org?) and see if they have any purebred golden retriever puppies.

Hope this helps!

It depends upon the quality of the dog.... pet or show quality. It also depends upon the pedigree.... if you want a dog out of a top winning kennel, be prepared to spend around 2000 bucks. BUT, you are better off buying a pet from a quality breeder because there are a lot of health issues that can be diminished by proper screening and breeding such as Sub aortic stenosis, juvenile cataracts, hip and elbow dysplasia, etc
If you do not want to pay a dear price, contact the Golden retriever Club of America website for rescue groups in your area that deal specifically with Goldens.
Good Luck

I have just researched this. You can get a pup from a backyard breeder from $200.00- $500 on average. These are usually pups that the parents have not had any clearances of hips, elbows, eyes, heart, ect... If you are lucky you might find ones for around $500 that have hip clearances. The other thing you should consider is if you want to breed. These breeders if they have the rights will give you what is called full registration usually(which basically means that you can breed) True breeders who are trying to keep only dogs that are of really good quality both conformation and temperment will charge most likely between $800-$1500 for pet quality with limited registration, which means you get no breeding rights. If you can convince one of the breeders that you are upstanding and knowledgable about what animal should be breed, you can expect to pay between $1500 and up for what is considered breeding stock or show quality. Then you can get full registry, once your dog has been certified good hips, elbows, ect...
So you need to know what you want and what you can afford to spend also. there are some nice pet quality dogs out there, but talk to and asks for pictures of parents. Ask about health cert. the more they have the better, for the price and what you want

Adopt a golden retriever puppy.
Go to www.petfinder.com and search in your area. I can almost guarantee you will be able to adopt a golden for the price of spaying or neutering. You will also be helping a puppy in need.

If you are not planning to show your dog, there is no need to pay the money for a purebred or special breeding line. In many cases, dogs you get from breeders or pet stores are not healthy and contribute to the stray problem in the U.S. and abroad.

Do what's politically correct & don't support puppy mills or greedy breeders. One trip to a rescue for the breed you want or go to the shelters and guaranteed if you have any heart, you can find one that is a golden or mixed or YOU will be picked if you listen to your heart). Just the experience of going to a puppy mill (keeping the poor "bitches" (doggie language) popping out one litter after another, flying them alone all over the country & then kill if they are all used up, you wouldnt consider this option which entails pet stores, pet ads, pet accessory (like Petsmart). Just take a trip to rescues & shelters & if you don't fall in love, then I'll eat my thongs!! One more thing, mixed breeds have been studied to be brilliant, less maintenance and healthier because of the hundreds of yrs of inbreeding. My sis has Bichons just because they won the dog show one yr. They pee all over everything, are picky eaters and w/vet and grooming, she spends $300 avg/mo. That doesnt include feeding. I'm begging to at least consider it-heck, my 2 11yr old "Pound Puppy" mutts demand nothing but their walks, food, grooming, and most of all a smile (yes they read out faces & voice tones) and love. Before you get ANY dog, go to the web spca or your closest Humane Soc. and get printed info on owning a dog which will help w/your decision (large dog/lg.area,etc.).

Got mine for $850. I wouldn't pay a whole lot less than that. Most $400 Goldens are from backyard breeders. $2000 for white English goldens. I paid more because the pedigree and health guarantee was great. Shelter dogs are also a good option, but you should really be more experienced with dogs than I am before you try that option and get behavioral problems you can't deal with.

I have a Golden Retriever that I got from a reputable breeder. I know I paid $250, but it can range from $200-$500 and more. I also foster Goldens for a Golden Retriever rescue. I encourage you to find a rescue that's close to you and check it out. Feel free to check out MTGRR.org. Enjoy your pup!

I think that instead of looking at the price of the puppy u should look at the quality that u are getting. Make sure that they are OFA approved ex: hips, eyes elbowes etc. Make sure that u connect with the pet and do not pick the 1st one u see. They all have there own personalities and u should research other breeders and make sure that the Mother and Father are on the premises. Hope everything works out.

Depends what you are getting. If you are buying an unregistered puppy, I wouldn't pay more than a couple of hundred.

Now if you want a good one and are going to a breeder who does all the health testing (hips, elbows, eye, heart) and provides a guarantee on the puppy, you would probably be looking at around $1000.
