I just got my new puppy 2 days ago. He was going to be put down, and since he was the runt the lady said that the other dogs picked on him, bit him, and just terrorized him a little. After examination, we noticed he has 2 small 1/4" black grey scaly spots on his ears, and maybe 5 or 6 more on either side of his rear flanks. He is also very shy, and will play for around 15 min, and then sleep for 2 hrs. He has no drainage from eyes or nose, doesnt apear to have a fever, has a healthy appetite, and is already responding very well to house breaking. Besides the spots, wich dont look that bad really, and the sleeping all the time and the shyness, hes the perfect little puppy. He seems really submissive, not sure if thats cause hes the runt, or what, but im just wondering does anyone out there have any ideas about those spots. do u think the submisive behaivor, and the shyness are related to the spots? Not sure if im just being to careful, but would like to know what to do.

Willberb screw u Man, I have a one year old beagle, and hes also trying to terrorize my little pup, but Ive kept it from happening.People like you are the one of the reasons I decided to get a pit, because not only being close minded, and square, ur also makin an *** of yourself all at the same time. Im going to take him to the vet, i was just asking a question. The lady said that the others nipped on him, and so ive been putting neosporin on the biggest ones. the others look like they are healing on their own.

Sounds as if it could be Demodex mange. It is not contagious, and it is fairly common in puppies, especially short haired ones. Get him to the vet, and have a skin scraping done. Also get him started on vaccines, as pit bulls are really susceptible to Parvo virus. Demodex mange is easily treated if it is localized, and most dogs do fine.
Good luck with your puppy!

AND TO THE FIRST BONEHEAD WHO ANSWERED THIS QUESTION WITH A BITCHY AND UNINFORMED COMMENT --
I have treated HUNDREDS of pit bulls, and have seen maybe 1-2% of them that are aggressive in the clinic. I have, however, been actually bitten by several beagles, and had too many Lhasa Apsos and other small breeds attempt to bite me, to actually keep count. Do not make generalizations. ANY dog can be dangerous, unless it is stuffed. There is no one breed that is worse than others, and no breed that is perfect. You should council people to take care to train whatever kind of dog that they own to be the best and safest dog it can be. Stop blaming. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

ok, first of all the person who answered this question first is a jackass!! A dog is only as mean as you make it. A lab which is considered to be a good family pet can be made just as mean if you mistreat it, it is a proven fact. I have a pti bull and she is a really sweet dog and loves people, my sister has 7 and they are also big babies. But your puppy may be sleeping alot because it is a pupy and the spots could be from where the other puppies picked on it. The discharge from the eyes and nose should be checked out. But it may have allerges, lots of Pit's do I have to put eyedrops in my pit's eyes everyday.

I'm pretty sure that none of us are qualified vets (as far as I know, sorry if I'm wrong) so I would take him to his vet and get it checked out. This is really the best choice, especially if it's something serious like mange or parvo.

take him to the vet. you cant mess around w/ mange or parvo, in case these are the early signs. does the dog have all of his shots, cuz thats really impt!!! My vet told me that Pitts and Rotts are more susceptible to parvo than all other breeds. Keep in mind that their immune system wont be fully functioning until about a year old.

The other puppies may have been biting him so it could be sores that are healing.

In many short coated breeds, the dogs are prone to demodex which is a type of mange.

Sounds like mange. Take him to a vet before he really has to be put down.

not something to worry about; its probably just a spot. And, contrary to popular belief, a spot of black on the tongue does NOT mean he's got chow in him. Even purebred dogs sometimes end up with a black spot on them.

Take your dangerous dog to the humaine society and perhaps you can have him put to sleep before he attacks and mauls an innocent child. Get yourself a beagle, when was the last time you read about a beagle bighting a childs face off?.
