Tonight as I left my house to go to the store I heard a pittiful sounding cat across the street when I got over there It was a very small kitten. just a few weeks old there were no othe kittens or cats around so I think it got lost so...
what should I feed it since I can't let it starve and other advice would you have? It is very little.

i gave it a small can of cat food (tuna in gravy) to hold it over tonite it seemed to beable to eat it just fine. I think that it might belong to the neighbors cat since it was by the neighbors fence I think its eyes have just opened it had a lot of mucus in them but I cleaned it with a damp washcloth.

p.s I am looking for name ideas what do you think about Killer?

get a syringe sort of thing from the chemist and some cat milk from the supermarket. heat it up slightly and gently gently feed it via the syringe. Make sure you keep it warm :) good luck

A few weeks? At that age it would not be moving around or have its eyes open. If that is the case then it has to be bottlefed with a special milk replacer. KMR is in most pet stores and maybe some pharmacies. You might call pharmacies tonight and see if they have it.

If it is only a few weeks old it will not make it through the night without something. I think you can use evaporated milk till tomorrow and I hope others will jump in and correct me if I am wrong. You must have a dropper somewhere in the house so you can get some in the little tyke. That would be available also from a latenight pharmacy.

OK, you've got permission from Lisa E. for the evaporated milk. And a recipe for adding the Karo. Both those are in most pharmacies. Call first and find out. You don't need to be running all over hell's half acre tonight.

Take it VERY slowly and don't lay the kitten completely down on its back when you do it as he could choke on it if it gets in his windpipe.

Do not feed the kitten milk, this will cause diarrhea.
Check the kittens mouth, do you see any teeth at all? If so, get some kitten chow and steep it, ( had hot water to it, let it set it will absorb the water and become soft) when it is room temp feed it to the kitten. If you have any chicken or turkey baby food (just the meat, no veggies) you can add that to the steeped kitten food or just serve it the baby food.

As soon as you can, get some kitten milk replacer it sells at Petsmart and some Walmarts. It comes in a powder and in small containers ready to serve. You may want to give the milk replacer out of a dropper or buy a kitten bottle when you buy the milk replacer and bottle feed the kitten. You can also add the milk replacer to the steeped kitten chow.

I'm sure you'll have many more questions, call a vet or your shelter they may be willing to help with more information on caring for the kitten or check out this site: http://www.animalaide.org/resources/kittens.html

HOW little is it? Does it have teeth yet? Eyes open? If it's very tiny, you can go to either a pet store or even some grocery stores and buy a pet nurser in the pet aisle. Esiblac makes a good kitten formula, but there are other brands out there too. Just cut a small cross in the tip of the baby bottle (don't cut an entire hole) and put the nipple in it's mouth. You'll have to GENTLY squeeze the bottle to let the kitten get a taste and usually after a while, they become used to that nipple and they'll suck on it.

If you can't get to the store tonight, see if you have some evaporated milk and light corn syrup (like Karo). Mix 2/3 evaporated milk, a teaspoon of corn syrup and 1/3 warm water in a cup and try giving the kitten some from an eye dropper.

If it's older, kitten chow or even soaked kitten chow (to soften it) will work...IF it will eat from a bowl. If you have none of that, JUST for tonight, see if it will eat some bits of lunch meat, or if it's too little, try some warm milk with sugar in it. ONLY for tonight! Cow's milk will give it the runs if you give it too much. Then tomorrow...try one of the above methods. Feel free to email me if you'd like!

When I got Buster his eyes were still closed and his mother was dead.
I fed him evaporated milk with an eye dropper.
I left him in the bottom of my kitchen drawer with a fuzzy slipper and an alarm clock ticking (imitation heart beat)

Everything was fine except he never wanted to be alone at night.
He slept on my neck and chewed on my ear lobe (substitue momma I guess). Otherwise he meowed and would not stop and I could not sleep. With little needle like claws he "made
bread on my ear." It was very strange but I had to let him do it and in a few minutes he fell alseep ...on my neck.

Motherhood has some strange events.

Call an animal shelter or bring it 2 the vet. It may be really young that it may need to be bottle fed. I could take care of it but I don't think I live near u. If it is alittle older try some canned kitten food with alittle warm water in it-----see if she is interested in it. Good Luck

Good on you for wanting to care for this kitten.

as it seems to be able to eat wet food, it's probably about 5 weeks old, which is young, but I would imagine you can feed it wet kitten food. As everyone has reccommended, you will need to suppliment it's food with special formula if it's very young. Make a stop past the vet and see how old they think it is, and what they suggest you should be feeding the lil thing.

Killer sounds like a great name! just be careful, it seems ironic now, but the lil tyke is probably going to grow right into his/her name!

Otherwise you can call him "Mo" short for moses, seeing as they both got rescued as tots!

Dont feed it people milk... Its not healthy for cats of any age. At pets stores you can find kitten formula and little bottles to feed the baby with. I fell bad for the poor baby. You really should call the ASPCA so they can find it a adoptive mother to take care of it.

You can get a baby bottle, & let the kitten nurse from that. Call the Animal Shelter too, they will help with all the questions you may have.
