I just got my plates and discovered that my car doesn't have a spot to put the front plate on. I'm not so keen on drilling holes myself. I've seen other CT cars without a front plate so I'm wondering if it's required or optional to have the front plate.

Yes it's the law in CT. You could get fined without it. Depending on the year and model of your vehicle, check with a dealer and inquire about a front lic plate bracket kit, they might carry one.

If the DMV sent you 2 plates, then yes, you are supposed to have one up front. But that depends on law enforcement, doing their jobs as well.
