ok, my son will be 4 next month and is still not potty trained all the way. i know some is better than none yes lol. well i have all his underwear (i refuse to go back to pull-ups so he can treat them like a diaper when he can pee in the toilet all day long) that are poopy. i got it out in the toilet and now i don't know what to do with them. how do i get the stains out? my kids are extremely sensitive to bleach, dyes, and perfumes. i don't have any quarters to go do laundry until saturday and he needs fresh underwear tomorrow. i scrubbed them will All free and Clear detergent and have them soaking in the sink in baby detergent. Any other ideas if these stains don't come out? saturday or sunday i can rewash them in a washer.

You aren't going to get all poop stains out. I know, I use cloth diapers. I put them in the washer on a rinse only cycle on cold, then the hottest longest cycle with detergent (Dreft is OK, I use regular stuff cause its cheaper). Tell your son that he's just going to have to learn to use the potty all the time, and until then he'll have to wear stained under-ware. Set something up like a month of poop free and he can get a new set or something. Also have him help clean up the mess. At four he is more than capable of rinsing out his under-ware in a bucket of water.

Its normal for kids to be afraid to poop on the potty while feel perfectly comfortable peeing in the toilet. I dont reccommend making your child scrub his own soiled underwear as some have suggested. That will only make him feel he is bad and that he is being punished for an accident. We want our kids to trust us, not think we expect them to be perfect. As for cleaning them, try soaking them in white vinegar, or scrubbing them with an old toothbrush and some shampoo after rinsing them. You can offer incentives to encourage him to poop on the toilet. go ahead and offer him a tootsie roll for each time he successfully poops in the toilet and not in his underwear. Make a big deal out of it. Tell him how proud you are that he was a big boy and did such a great job using the toilet. If he knows he's going to get a special treat and lots of praise - he'll want to poop on the toilet all the time.

Rinse them out real good and hang them out in the sun with the stained side out so the sun can bleach the stain for you. How do you think people in the old days got stains out before bleach and all the things we have now? The sun, the good old sun can do a lot, give it a try, you have nothing to lose.

You might try baking soda, it has cleaning chemicals and a tad of bleaching stuff in it. Also, soak them in COLD water cuz hot water will set the stain and it will never come out then. Try dish soap too.
If the stains are a matter of just being embarassed by them, just tell your sitter or preschool that he has ran out of unstained underwear because he keeps having accidents, and you're gonna buy him some new ones in a few days.
I babysit, and one way that I trained a 4 year old boy not to poop or pee in his underwear was to make HIM wash them out himself. He'll think it's GROSS and he'll think twice next time if HE has to clean it up himself. Of course, you'll have to wash them after you make him do it cuz he won't clean them like you would, but trust me, it gets the point across FAST!!

Good Luck, Hon!!

Ok, well, the truth is, I'm 14 and my mother had the same EXACT thing with my brother, cuz he wasn't potty trained either for like a really long time. What she did was, she would always rinse them out really good with dish soap so you can get all the germs out and then she would soak them for a little while until she could get some quarters for laundry. It always worked for her.

Leave him with your husband, or take him with you, and run out to the store to buy him a couple of really cheap pairs. When you next get a chance, go and buy him proper underwear to replace his old ones. Throw out poopy underwear, it's not healthy or hygienic!

Peroxide will do wonders. It might not take them totally out but you should see a big improvement. Good luck.

I'd give baking soda a try. Pretty cheap.
