A work visa is independent of family situation, so that ex will just be laughed at if she calls his work or immigration. They can tell her to go choke on her illusions.

Until the "non canadian" commits a crime or sees his work visa expire, he does not have to leave the country. Your friend however should start looking into immigrations procedures if they both want to stay in Canada.

Family and work immigration laws do not always mix well, they may need to ask an attorney for help, at least to get started. Unless his work sponsors him to stay as a resident, she will have to sponsor him under family immigration laws - fairly easy according to my cousin who's been there already.

If his work visa is legitimate and still valid, and he is still working for the employer that sponsored him, his getting married will not affect his status; in short, if the only thing he's done "wrong" is get married, he won't be deported. It's perfectly legal for a non-Canadian to marry a Canadian. But if they intend to continue to live in Canada, they should immediately find out exactly how the process of her sponsoring him for permanent immigration works.

This is his ex just blustering. Ask her just how she proposes to do this. There have been no illegalities committed. Do take whatever legalities that might be required to document his new married status.
