i understand what most of you are saying about using birth control and waiting a couple of years before making a major life decision like this. But the truth is i don't want children that's too much of a responsiblity to have someones life in your hands like that being responsable for who they become i couldn't handle that. i don't want to be the reason they go to jail or do drugs or cut themselves like i've watched countless friends do, and family included. i'm not asking weather you think i'm insaine for wanting to do this only if i can and the risks that are involved.........

As a person who also doesn't want children (at any age), I have looked into having my tubes tied. There may be long-term side effects, as well as a the fact that it is an invasive surgery, and that always carries risks. I have decided that it's not a great enough benefit to me to have my tubes tied. I use birth control, and have prepared myself for the fact that if I conceive, there will be an abortion.

There is a tonne of information at www.tubal.org

As a side note - Women who have their tubes tied can still have children through in-vitro fertilization.

getting your tubes tied at 19 is going to be a very difficult process. most doctors wont even think about doing it because it is such a huge decision to be making at such a young age. you have so many child bearing years ahead of you - what if you meet a great man and change your mind and want the surgery reversed? the reversal process works for some women, but not all....so if you decide later on that you want kids the process of getting the surgery reversed may not work for you and you may never be able to have children. for this reason, doctors will not even think about it at your age. however, if you are diagnosed with some sort of reproductive disease and the doctor says it is necessary for you to get your tubes tied (from a medical standpoint), then ok - the surgery will happen. but it is VERY VERY VERY rare. this is not a question of when is the safest age to get it done but will you even have it done at all at your current age, and my guess is absolutely not. you will have to wait until you're older and have some life experience under your belt before a doctor will even talk to you about this on a serious level.

At your age, I would recommend you not to. I dont think as a 16 year older, you have thought far enough into the future to say that you never want children. It is a generally irreversible procedure, meaning that when you are older you may want a family and that wont be possibly. By the way, I dont think any doctor will agree with doing the procedure on you even if you were 19. There is too much liability in you coming back later and wanting to get it 'reversed'. Please reconsider, it just isnt practical.

Most doctors wont tie a woman's tubes unless she is over 21 and has had at least one kid. Even then many doctors are hesitent.

I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking at it as a form of birth control. Get an IUD, the patch, a shot, a pill, a condom, or something else. You're young and will probably want kids eventually. You may think you don't now but yes most women do get feelings as they mature that it's time for them to have a child.

They wont do it at a young age, my cousin had 3 kids by 26 and they still didnt want to do it, she had to convince them. I would say talk to your Dr about the Depo Provera shot, in most women it suspends periods, has few side affects and you only get the shot every 3 months. Im 34 have 2 kids and still dont want to do anything permenant even though I think Im done. Ive been on the Depo for 3 years and I love it. My 4 year old was the product of contraceptive film failure, ask about the depo injection.

Why in the world would you want to get that done at such a young age? I don't think you have enough life experience to make such a decision. You may not want children now, but wait until you're an adult to make such an important medical and life altering decision. If you don't want children, there's birth control, condoms, etc. Many ways of preventing pregnancy. Wait a few years until you're more educated, on the medical portion, and in life.

Good luck to you :)

Chances are you will never find an ethical doctor to do it. When I was single and 27 with 2 kids it took a while to convince my OB/GYN.

Side effects -- none other than surgery side effects -- and although it is reversible there is no 100& guarantee. Also, insurance may not cover it at 19 and I highly doubt they will cover a reversal later on in life.

It's been almost 10 years for me and I have never regretted it

Oh my goodness...there are SOOOO many better options. Do not make such a lifelong decision at your age. Most doctors will not even do a tubal ligation on someone so young (even when you are 19) because it is so permanent. If you are sure you don't want to be pregnant, ask your doctor about depo provera or a similar sort of birth control method. You don't want to change your mind in 20 years and regret your decision.

Your are a bloody idiot, why would you even think of going under the knife. It is not safe and you will have further problems down the track but these won't make themselves apparent for at least 10-20 years. And any self-respecting doctors will not touch you with a barge pole, you are far too young. There are other alternatives to be looked at first.

Hey just let you know my life had this procedure done, for her it was like gift from God, but you have to realize, that down the road you want might want change your mind and you want to have a kid's, you have to remember that there's no return from the procedure, since you are so young that my advice is, not to do it for now, unless you are in situation where you are, where you can get unwanted pregnancy, it is huge benefit, to not to worry to get pregnant, just letting you know, there is no side effects what so ever, the procedure is very simple, but also in all of your partner, he can have the same procedure done, said he doesn't spread his seat around , in your age is still have elapsed time to pick and choose which you want for your life
