They cost between $600 and $1200 (more or less) depending how in demand the particular breed is. I don't recommend ever
purchasing a dog or puppy because most all puppies that come from pet stores are bred in "puppy mills". A puppy mill is a large farm where all they do is raise puppies. They are usually raised in cramped little cages and ripped from their mothers when they are only 4 or 5 weeks old. The mothers are bred until they die from exhaustion or medical problems from being bred too much. They never know the feel of fresh grass, are never let out to play, and spend their entire lives living in their own feces and urine. The puppy mill does not do genetic testing, or health testing, so you may not get a healthy puppy, or it may get sick at a later date. It's pretty inhumane. You will find a much cheaper puppy in the local classifieds. Probably not the best example of it's breed, but no worse that what you will find in a pet store, and most backyard breeders at least take decent care of their dogs.

Please, whatever you do, do not purchase that puppy in the window. Puppies that come from pet stores are a money pit. The parents are bred over and over agian, kept in tiny cages and inhumane nasty enviroments. The parents aren't socialized and many times the puppies aren't cared for properly either. These people don't breed to better the breed. They breed for money. The price for a pet store puppy is WAY to expensive. $1,000 for a puppy that could have health problems..... do you know if the parents cleared all the health checks? Do you know if the parents had a heart murmur or something worse? No. These people don't care. All they want is money.
Don't buy a pet sotre puppy. Even dogs in the paper are better deals. At least you know how the parents are and can see the parents and know the enviroment the puppy has grown in thus far in its life.
Please. think before you buy. Don't buy a pet store puppy. Know what you are getting into before you hand over the money.

Pet stores usually charge around-a-bout $500 for the puppies.... many now days are mixed. Why pay that when you can go to the shelter, get one for 60 bucks, the same dog, and that has all shots and is fixed? Plus, these dogs don't even have papers... not like it matters, but, for have a grand i want papers!!!

Hi, Dogs and other animals in pet stores are usually expensive but it does depend on the type of dog you are interested in. If you are really serious in getting a dog I would go to a shelter or rescue because the dogs there need homes badly and the cost is inexpensive. I adopted one a year ago and he is the best dog I could have asked for and I've been to pet stores. I would recommend the shelter.

All dogs that come from a pet store are bought from big "puppy mills." They're pure bred, but that doesn't mean they're well bred. The puppies are often riddled with hereditary problems that could cost a lot of money in the future on top of an already ridiculous purchase price. You can buy a pure bred puppy from a reputable breeder for sometimes half the cost of pet stores. And these are puppies who should come with a health guarantee and the opportunity to see the parents.

I don't know about you, but I want my dog to look something like the breed standard - I tire of seeing bichons with bodies as long as a dachsund. A small amount of research could save you years of problems and gets you twice as much for your money.

There's also the option of adopting from your local animal shelter - save a life! Good luck.

Why do you need a dog from a pet store? Adopt from a shelter! You can sometimes even find fancy dogs at the shelter--big or small--and occasionally even a dog with "papers." This is rare, but why do you need them in the first place unless you want to show the dog?

Here's the breakdown in our area (South Carolina):

Shelter: $70.00 adoption fee
Spay/neuter is included
First shots are included
You get the joy of easing a need in society and helping an animal.

Pet store: $300.00 minimum price
Spay/neuter: $80.00
First vet visit/shots: $50.00
You pay 5-6 times as much and still don't get as good an animal as you would at the shelter because mixed breeds are often healthier, happier dogs.

Do not buy a puppy for a pet store as most people will tell you in most cases the dogs are not in the best shape. Find a reputable breeder in your area. Better yet go to your local shelter there are dogs and well as puppies.

A pet store is usually a really bad place to buy a dog. You are buying at a premium, paying equal or more than you will pay to buy from a reputable breeder, and your dog will probably have behavioral or physical problems. Puppies from pet stores are treated horrifically. The stories would make you sick. Google it. Try petfinder.com for adopting or puppyfind.com for breeders.

To answer your question, though, $200-$2000.

You should never, ever get a dog from a pet store. First of all, they over-charge and the puppies are generally from a puppy mill. If you want a pure bred, go to a breeder. If not, go to a shelter.

It depends what kind of a dog you buy. They can go anywhere from approx. $ 200 and up. I bought a small bichon mixed once and it cost me $ 600 at a pet store. Don't forget they really mark-up their price. Go to the humane society...Animals really need a home from there

Around here...between $500-$3,000. Add another $1,000 and UP for the vet bills you will be paying for when puppy is sick with parvo or some genetic disorder. Now, you have spent thousands more than you could have spent if you had just gone to a reputable show breeder in the first place. Rep. breeders guarantee their pups for life from genetic problems.

Just stay away from petshops all together. Adopt or find a rep. breeder.
