Not of the military as a whole, or the general organization of government, but what is your opinion of the people serving in the military and why?

I ask because I am a member of the Navy, and wherever I go I get a different set of opinions, from utmost respect to raging open disgust, and I'm just curious about why different people feel the way they do.
Thanks!

I really want to know why everyone thinks that people in the military are brainwashed. That honestly is one of the stupidest comments I see and I see it often. Just because we choose to do a job that none of them are willing to do, doesn't mean we're brainwashed. They forget that what we do gives them their freedoms and rights to say and even think the things they do. I think America as a whole is in the dark. One good way to wake people up would be to have every person serve 2 years. They'd think differently if they knew the life we have. Yes, we choose it, but nobody really wants to go to war. Nobody wants to kill or be killed, but yes, it's part of the job. It's a rough life, but it's a good life. They choose to be lawyers and stockers and mechanics.....we choose to serve our country. It should be respected and honored, not ridiculed.

We've been in, well actually hubby has, but everyone knows that the whole family is in the military. Anyways, we've been in 18 years and alot has changed. In many ways, the quality of soldier has gone down. He's a Drill Sergeant now and things definitely aren't as tough as when he went through Basic. However, they do worry more about the family than the did when he first joined. It seems like things kinda come in trade-offs. There's alot more young people that think they should be catered to. Alot less respect for the uniform. I guess you have to be in to understand. As a whole, the military is a good group of men and women doing what they think is right.

Thanks for what you do and God bless!!

I have been surrounded by Military people for most of my life, so I was taught young to have respect for these men and women. I knew from an early age that Military Members have made, and will continue to make sacrifices, such as death, to ensure our freedom. And I have carried those feeling's and beliefs over into my adult life.
My husband is a Chief in the Navy and I'm so proud of him and his dedication to our Country. And it's not just him, it's all Military men and women. I do wish that people would stop blaming the entire Military when a few do something wrong or illegal. Our Armed Force Members aren't perfect, and I'm always amazed that people are really surprised when they do commit a crime, or do anything stupid! It would be nice to be able to tell the screwy people from the normal ones when they sign up for the Military, but unfortunately, when someone goes and joins the Military there is no red light over their head that shines to alert the recruiter that this person may actually be a freak and has no business serving their country!
There are few Military people that do this for the money! Yes, there are benafits and it does help, but I believe that most people join out of love and respect for the United States. I will continue to teach my children to have the respect for the Military that I was taught to have, and I would be very proud if they one day followed in the father, grandfather's, uncles and cousin's footsteps and joined the service.
Will P, thank you for your service to our Country. You all have still have a lot of support (The Military should be supported all the time! Not just when they are fighting in a war!) from Americans, and I've said it before and I'll continue to say it, we love you guys!

The Military discourages individuality and free thought

oh really????

Jimmy Hendrix
Chris Christopherson
Johnny Cash
George Strait
Colin Powell
John Glenn
Charles Rangle
Jimmy Stewart
Ronald Reagan
Hemingway
Ian Flemming

All great Musicians, actors, politicians and writers doesn't sound like they were brainwashed and did not have an "original idea" to me??? And all of them served with distinction in the military.

The only place that truly seems to supress free thought today would be our nations COLLEGE CAMPUSES

The British military has merely opened the door for ladies human beings to enter the infantry, which might want to instruct exciting. i do not see any reason that ladies human beings might want to be disqualified from attempting to enter those fields. in the adventure that they could bypass all of necessities, there is not any reason behind them to be denied the academic.

I have the most respect and pride for everyone who is in the military. Whether they joined for college money or b/c they wanted to shoot a gun, no matter what they gave up their freedoms so that we wouldn't have to. And whether they are in 2 years or 20 years, they still did it. They have to go through a lot of hard times and I wish i could thank everyone of you for that. I get goosebumps when i hear the National Anthem, when i see veterans marching in a parade as proud as the day they joined, and i shed a tear whenever another soldier is lost. Keep your heads held high and don't listen to the negativity, lots of us back home appreciate you with all our hearts.

I think highly of those in the military, I will be going to basic training for the Army in a month. I think anyone that looks down on those in the military are fools and should be lined up and shot.

I served in the US Army Rangers in Somalia, I earned a bronze star and Purple heart and I right now think the men and women in Iraq are doing a great job just the big guys in the Oval office could do better.

If you watch only one conspiracy documentary ever, make it this one. This just might be the best introductory video out there. Understand that every claim made in this is fact, not opinion, no matter how wild it sounds. It's all easily verifiable through mainstream news archives and public documents.
