Andrea's sister:
I think it's alright though because I only let him lick it, and just a little bit. And I only let him do that about 4 times already.

Hi Andrea...your cat will not suffer any ill effects from eating the two, however it isn't recommended to give in the future. Processed meats such as salamie (a cured meat) which contains nitrates (cancer-inducing toxins) consumed long-term could cause serious health effects which is medically expensive. The best rule of thumb is to make sure if you want to give your kitty treats that is human food...boil some chicken (don't add anything--just use plain chicken) and they'll love this. A lot of ingredients we use to flavour our delicious cooked food such as onions and garlic are toxic to their sensitive digestive system. I'll also include a website link below that lists all the foods that are not good or harmful for a cat.

It is VERY important to keep your cat on a diet of high quality cat food. Manufacturers have spent millions to produce cat foods that are healthy for our kitties!

The treats you mention are perfectly fine as an occasional treat. (MUCH better than cornchips & some of the other things I've seen in this forum). But the key word is "treats".

Feed your cat a high quality diet. The occasional treats you mention will not harm your cat, and if he's skinny a little handfed booster is just fine.

If he's fat DON'T!!! He could end up with serious problems, including diabetes, which can be fatal!

It's nice to share a little treat with the kitty. And too much is very bad for the cat. I has nitrates and way too much salt. It really isn't the best food for you either.

It's not good to feed the cat processed meats because they have too much salt. It won't kill the cat but a constant diet of that could cause kidney problems.

not good as a steady diet, but I've had feline friends talk me out of caviar, salmon, gouda cheese, cheesecake, ice cream, green beans, and the kitchen sink as a nap spot. I don't know if it's good or bad either but it's all cat.

I don't think a small nibble is too bad, but those meats have a lot of preservatives in them and the kinds of preservatives they put in human foods is not good for pets.

A little taste here and there won't hurt him, just make sure its not part of his regular diet.
