Why does Matthew 10: 37-39 say otherwise?
Anyone who prefers father or mother to me is not worthy of me.
Anyone who prefers son or daughter to me is not worthy of me.
Anyone who does not take his cross and follow in my footsteps is not worthy of me. Anyone who finds his life will lose it; anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it.

As is stated in the Epistle of James....
'Faith without deeds is DEAD'

No where in the Bible does it say anything other than we are saved by grace alone through faith alone. Many times the Catholic church and others will quote a verse in James that says Faith without works is dead, but if you exegete this passage and look at it not alone but in the light of the REST of scripture, it is clear. With faith comes the desire to do good works and it is the fruit that comes from the grace He has given you. It is not saying that if do good works to get to heaven, you will get there. As for Matthew 10, I don't see anything that even remotely looks the gospel plus something else will get your ticket punched to heaven.

Mathew 10: 37-39 does not say that we are not save if we prefer our mother than Jesus. But clearly Jesus wants Him to be the first of everything. This verse is a good reminder that there should no idols in our lives, and that we should fully obey God no matter what. :) But our salvation is already given by Grace, you just need to accept it wholeheartedly.

It was God's grace that allowed our sins to be cancelled by the death of his son. It was a gift given to those of us who will accept it. We either accept it or we don't. We do not gain Heaven. If we believe that Jesus died for us and TRY to live our lives well to back up our faith, we have nothing to worry about. Notice I said try. God knows that we will make mistakes, but as long as we ask for forgiveness we will not be punished for them.

God is just saying that He has to be first in our lives, or we will turn away from Him. He knows that people are easily caught up in other aspects of life, which could cause us to lose our faith.

Taking up our crosses and losing our lives just means that we have to stop being selfish. To be a true Christian, we have to spread the word of God, tell people about his son, and help other people on earth. This is because God knows the difference between what we say and what we do...a person can not claim to be a Christian if they do not follow the Christian principles. God wants all of our hearts, not some empty words with nothing to back them up.

If you take Jesus for what he says and not tack on Paul's interpretation then grace is not enough. You are to give up your family, any wealth if you have it, your entire ranch of pigs if you should have a demon possessed dude named Legion nearby who runs into Jesus, any feelings of lust that might lead to meeting a woman you might marry, and feelings of anger that might motivate you to get something done, so on and so forth. I mean Jesus didn't seem to care that the man that baptised him went to prison. So its safe to assume that he doesn't care about anything except want he wants.

Ponder this: Satan comes up to you and says "If you don't deny Christ right now I will make your daughter a whore to evil men and curse her life till her death." What do you say?

There you are.
It is not Grace alone, it is by faith also which is a gift.
Eh 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
The grace not yours, the faith, not yours.
What is grace? Unmerited favor.
What is faith?
A gift of God, without it it is impossible to please God.
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
What you quoted is in relation to the love you show for Jesus, not that you actually hate your people.

Grace is the name of an angel and Faith is a Goddess its funny how christians skip over that fact when i point it out to them. I know about the *other Gods and Goddesses because im a Pagan or as christians like to call me a godless heathen(whatever that means, at least i dont believe in sacrificing babies to please my dieties)

I personally believe that since christians like to condemn others to hell, and they assume that a doctorine belief in a man named Jesus will save them and they act like pompous jerks then they should be the ones to go to hell.

We are saved by grace through faith alone. Clearly someone who put family ahead of Christ does not having the saving faith that leads to the grace that saves you.

We can be unworthy, but still be saved, if we repent.

Matthew is telling us we must love God above all others.

It is by the grace of God that we are saved, not by our own power.

But that happens only if we are worthy, not through our own acts, but through God's grace.

We are not saved by grace alone. We must follow in Jesus footsteps and feed the poor, visit the sick, as Jesus commanded us. Grace will sustain us in all our endeavors in Jesus name.
