Send out an invite explaining what it is and then decorate with scales. Invite her bridal party and friends and then just have an old fashioned luncheon with potato salad and sandwiches and iced tea.
Good Luck!

Are you sure this would be something the couple that has everything would want? It is exactly as it is written, each guest brings a pound of some consumable product to add to the bride's pantry. This was popular back in the "day" when things like coffee and sugar were a luxury. I would probably plan it as a couple's shower and have either a cookout or buffet dinner. I would give a brief history of the idea in the invite. Talk to the couple though and make sure this is something they would enjoy, they may prefer a money tree or gift certificate shower, or even a really fun lingerie shower....Good luck.

A pounding is a great Southern shower idea! Churches used to have them a lot when I was growing up. They usually did them for larger families right before the school year because the parents needed to buy school clothes and that would take away from the grocery money. To convert this to a bridal theme, I think you could pair it with recipe cards that have become a mainstay. You could do invites on recipie cards and include a specially themed one for the guest's favorite recipie. I'd include a self-addressed stamped envelope and have them mail them back to you before the shower. You could then use a hole punch and punch each card twice on the left side, wrap raffia thru the holes (after you place a pretty cover and back on it) and present it to the bride to be at the shower. It would be a natural tie-thru. I've copied & pasted an excerpt from source one below (as it was difficult to locate on the page). Source two also has some fun ideas. Good luck ! You could have a blast with this!
From source one: A Pound of This--A Pound of That Party
Also known as a "Pounding," this is a fun boy-girl theme party where the object is to furnish the couple with practical gifts "by the pound." For example, for him a pound of nails, golf tees, toggle bolts, popcorn, artificial fish bait, etc. For her, a pound of flower, sugar, coffee, herbs, bath crystals, potpourri, etc. In addition to a "pound-of-something," ask the guests to bring enough non-perishable food to stock the couple's pantry for their first week or two of married life. Decorate an old-fashioned balance scale to use as the foundation for your floral centerpiece.

RE:
any ideas on how to give a "pounding shower" for a newly married couple that has everything?
an old fashioned type of shower that was given to brides back in the "day". You give a pound of some sort of food instead of a gift. i just need to have ideas to plan one.

ooooooo, how fun! I would set it up as a BBQ, potluck, or some other informal and fun setting. Make the whole event food-based.
The invitations are going to be key. Give some background on what a pounding shower used to be and adapt it for modern day. Instead of sticking strickly to "a pound" of things, focus on the pantry / non-perishable aspect. A list of suggestions might help. I think things like fancy vinegars and oils would make sense. So would spices, wine, marinades...

You just indicate on the invitations, that that is the theme of the shower.
I heard that people give pounds of non-food items, too, like a pound of ballpoint pens, a pound of condoms, a pound of soap, etc...
