On a scale of 1-10?

My mother did this, I was told after the fact by my husbands brother. My husband's side of the family is all worked up. It was at my son's baptism. My friend assured me that she was still saying all the words to the prayers. I don't know whether I should call my mom and lecture her, or let it all blow over.

In my mother's defense she has not been to church since I got married 4 years ago!

She knits socks, and keeps them all.

I'm going to say, please forgive your mother now. Forgiving means you're not going to hassle her about it.

I'd rather have her knitting in the church than sitting around at home!

Your husband's family should cool it too. Remember, your mother is your son's grandmother, and nothing they can say is going to change that.

I think it depends on how important the ceremony is.

I often knit to relieve stress, so take that into consideration- what if your mom is a little nervous at church? It's better than smoking, although just as addictive. I often knit on planes, and I wonder sometimes whether or not that is being rude, especially to the people seated next to me. But it helps me to calm down a little and worry a little less about the flight.

Good luck with the church folk, and I hope all those socks are well-loved.

Honestly it is not bad... nor is it looked down on. You have to understand that church is an educational institution. Religions have provided education LONG before schools were dreamed up. It is no more insulting than doing your work at school.

Now, for a little love on your part. If you knit... and like it. Please donate some of your creations to the poor. They really need them. Use the love and work created in the Lord's House to protect his children. Please consider this....

The picture and the question. Priceless. That is an image I will carry with me for years.

I love your randomness. You rock. Please give me 10 points just for laughing so hard at this. You are adorable.

Oh... you were serious. I don't think it's so bad. I really don't think you should make and issue of it. It's quiet, doesn't bother anyone, she can still pay attention. Try not to be legalistic. If she is saved, that is what matters. Don't judge her, especially since the Bible doesn't have any dictates against knitting in church.

Its pretty rude to be knitting at an important event, regardless of the venue. A wedding, graduation, etc., you should be focused on the ceremony, not knitting.

That said, don't yell at her, just let her know it was offensive to your in laws and to refrain from such behaviour around them - at important events.

That would depend. If you're knitting a sweater for the poor children, it's a -5. If you're knitting thermo-bra with hearts on it, it's about a 9.6

10 is the worst?

It is a 10.

You want to knit? Stay home in front of the TV. This is clearly a joke since it is one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

It's about a 9, I'd say. Farting... that's worse.

I just can't even imagine seeing somebody knit in church.

That would just be the height of nonchalance.

I think that knitting in church is ok if it is for a
womens christian ministry. But to sit in church
while the preacher is preaching is someting else.
Stay home if you want to knit. How's THAT!

LOL. I love it. I think it is fine. I mean you could be doing worse things. You don't bring a romance novel to church too now do you? LOL>
