After every puppy should come the afterbirth... if it doesn't come that is something to worry about as it can cause a very bad infection if the dam retains it....

Females pass a greenish black liquid while giving birth... this is normal. Yes, there will be lots of fluid with each pup. Makes quite a mess. Not to worry, everything is going as it should. Depending on breed & size of your dog, she will have between 2 & 12 pups. Offer her water & food when she appears to be finished & let her walk around outside.
If she seems like she is in distress (contractions & pushing with no results for more than 2 hours) bundle her up & head for the vet. There is a problem.
I always monitor a female's temperture after giving birth for about 48 hours. If her fever spikes above 102 degrees, call your vet, an infection is setting in.
Good luck with your new pups!!! I just love puppies!

Green fluid can be a sign of serious infection and is in no way normal before the first puppy.
Signs of Birthing Problems:
-30 to 60 minutes of active straining without birth of a puppy
-four hours between birth with more puppies expected
-Two hours of weak, ineffectual labor without birth of a puppy
-A purulent or hemorrhagic vaginal discharge
-Apathy or weakness, with a rectal temperature about 104 or below 97
-Passing dark green or bloody fluid before the birth of the first puppy

You definately need to let someone know that the dog is giving birth. Maybe there was a plan set that needs to be followed like calling a vet.
This is something that is an instinct for animals and most don't have any trouble giving birth and taking care of it. The best thing to do is to get ahold of your parents and let them know. Don't bother the mother or the puppies. The mother will take care of everything that needs to be taken care of.

keep in mind that dogs are different from humans, each dog has its own placenta, and green fluid after each pup is normal, just monitor the amounts and if it looks like there is too much then call the vet, but everything sounds fine, make sure she is waking the pups up by licking and nudging them, if she's tired, help her!!!

In your other post, you said that all your dogs are fixed and none have ever had a chance to be pregnant and then go on to say that this dog is pregnant and that this is her second litter. Things are not making sense here. Give a serious question and you may get a serious answer.

Green is not ok!!! It means the placentas are detaching. She needs to see a vet.
