Definitely wear something comfortable on the first day!! Don't wear a tiny skirt and shoes that will make you fall over...because you will have enough trouble looking for your classes without worrying about wardrobe malfunctions. :-)
A backpack or a messenger bag is a good idea for your stuff, at least until you know your way around so you won't have to keep track of a lot of small things.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, especially from teachers. (A bad idea is to ask senior boys, for obvious reasons.) If you get lost, find somebody and ask where you are. They'll understand.
Don't act like you know it all already. Upperclassmen are driven crazy by freshmen who think they own the school by the first couple of weeks. Try to figure your way around first, then get involved and people will realize that you're not just another stupid freshman.
For the first couple of days, I would suggest bringing a lunch. That way you can figure out the timing on lunch, to know how much time you have to eat and if you think you would have the patience to stand in line and if the food's any good. Some days, it's easier to buy your lunch, especially on days when you were in a rush and didn't have time to make one, but I found it to be a lot easier to have food already so I could find a spot and sit down while everybody else is shoving for a spot in line. That way you can save a spot for your friends too.
Big tip: get involved any way you can!!! Drama, choir, student gov, dances, band, anything. It makes high school SO much more fun.
Make friends with the staff, if you can. It will stand you in good stead throughout your highschool career - believe me, it helps to be friends with the custodian when, during Christmas break, you leave your papers at school and the school's locked and he's the only one who can let you in so you can get them and finish the 8-page paper that's due the day you come back from break! (I speak from experience!!) :-) All it really takes is saying hi to them in the hallways and taking time to talk to them as an equal rather than acting like a too-cool highschooler. They will respect you for that and become your friends-in-high-places...which will come in mighty handy along the way!
You'll have fun. Go with the flow, but (here comes a cliche) be yourself! It's a great time and you'll love it if you take it all in stride. Good luck!

Don't be nervous. Pretty much everyone else is going to be the same as you are. Jeans and a shirt sounds good to me. That's all I wore and was fine. And whatever you want to do for lunch, you could take a lunch and take some money as well.

I'm gonna be a jr. so I clearly remember my first day as a frosh.
First of all, don't be nervous. Just act really confident and approach new people and make friends. I brought a bag lunch because you never know how long the line is gonna be on that first day, so it's best to bring your own. Jeans and shirt sounds fine; really, everyone's gonna be worried about their own outfits they're not gonna really notice anyone else's. Make sure you bring notebooks and pens becaue you might start taking notes in class.

I started high school on Monday. Don't worry, It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Most people did wear just a shirt and jeans, with flip flops. Be prepared to have WAY more homework than Jr. High, though. It doesn't matter about lunch, it was about 50/50 my first day. Just make sure that you make friends with people in your classes so you have someone to sit with at lunch! :) Good luck!

FRESHMAN! ::hordes of upperclassmen arrive with tomatoes::
But seriously, relax and be yourself. Bring lunch money. Wear something comfortable. Be friendly.
You should be fine.
