I was wondering if anyone could tell me some things about Alexandria's Government and Social Structure back when Alexander the Great was still alive? Or, if you have any good websites that tell me some of the things about it, I would really appreciate it. My school doesn't provide us with text books. They tell us to use the internet.

I know a few things #1 any ship that came to port in Alexandria had any written material taken from the boat and copied by scribes so as to build the great library of Alexandria.It was also a very open society and a virtual melting pot of ideas from the known world, kind of like the new york of its day. After Alexander it was rules by the Ptolemies. around 300 or 400 ad. the church burned the library down
