If you read the Bible you'll see that Adam and Eve had other children after they left the Garden. If you examine the scriptures I'm not totally convinced that Adam and Eve were the first man and woman. Look at Gen 1:28:
God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
Just a note the word multiply is widely excepted as the English translation but there those that beleive the true translation is replenish. I'm not sure right off hand which translation uses the word replenish but there is at least one translation that does.
Then after the seventh day of rest does the Bible talk about creating Adam and placed him in the garden in Gen 2:7:
Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
It almost seems as if God created Adam specifically to care for the Garden. Adam and Eve it seems had a special purpose to fulfill. The Bible as far as I can tell never says that Adam and Eve were the first man and woman but they are important because eventually Jesus would be born through the blood line of Adam.
As far as Eve having other children Gen 4:25 shows Adam had a son named Seth.

I think during that time period, God did not outlaw incest because how else was the world going to be populated? Now, as far as we know, God only made two people to begin with, and they reproduced and had sons and daughters. We're not told if God created more people along with Adam and Eve to live in the garden. But from what I have read, and am willing to accept, God made two people: a man and a woman, they had sons and daughters and (as far as we know because the bible does not exactly say) they mingled with each other and had more children. You have to remember that God's first creation was wisdom (read Proverbs 8:22). I don't think he would have made two human bodies that could recreate other human bodies that would be tainted and unable to produce healthy flesh. I think that God made it so that every human being born from the time of Eve until the time of Noah were healthy and unflawed (besides the sin nature). After that, when Moses was given the law, God instituted the law banning incest. Oh, and Eve had 3 sons. After the death of Able, we are told that Eve brought forth another male child (Gen 4:25-26).

Go to Yahoo and there was an artical this week or last week about how geneologists believe that everyone alive today could be traced to one person that lived 5,000 years ago. That would be Adam and his wife would be Eve.
Other humans were around of course, but maybe those two discovered right from wrong and then laws were created soon after. Remember the rule of law is a fairly recent concept. Previously it was the rule of the club/arrow/sword ect.
Remember, the Bible was written so that everyone, including the uneducated, could understand it. It would be way too hard to describe DNA and The Big Bang 5,000 years ago.

Are you another ignorant uneducated idiot? There was no incest in the Bible.
As Bob T, Wwinegarden and others point out if you read the Bible properly, you will Find Adam and Eve had a lot of other children, and there were other people living in the neighbouring valleys.
Adam and Eve initially have two sons, Cain and Abel. Cain grows envious of the favor found by his brother before God, and slays him. The first murder is that of a brother. Cain is sentenced to wander over the earth as a fugitive. He finally settles in the land of Nod [where there were other people living].
Cain, the son of Adam, builds the first known city in the Bible and calls it after the name of his son, Enoch (Genesis 4:17).
So where did all the people who populated this first city in the Bible come from? Did GOD pull a fast one in creation? Me thinks you are foolish if you take the Bible literally.
After Cain leaves, Adam and Eve have another son, Seth, born in place of the slain Abel (Genesis 4:25). Seth's descendants never lose thought of God (Genesis 4:26). The tenth in regular descent is Noah (Genesis 5:1-29). Seth through Noah and later Abraham is an ancestor of the Jewish people, but not Cain. Adam and Eve also have other sons and daughters (Genesis 5:4). In line with most of the other biblical characters born before the flood whose ages are provided, Adam lived until the age of 930 (Genesis 5:5).
Genesis, Chapter 5 provides a genealogy of descendants of Adam till Noah.
Watch the great classic film "Inherit The Wind" starring Spencer Tracy based on the Tennesee Monkey Trial of 1925 prosecuting a teacher for teaching Evolution and Darwinism as opposed to Creationism. The same question came up in the trial. The film will explain everything regarding your question.
Spencer Tracy is Drummond the Defence attorney, and Fredric March is the Prosecuting attorney Brady.
Drummond is inspired to call Brady as a witness, and expose the flaws in his literal interpretation of the Bible.
Brady takes the Bible and the story of Genesis literally believing that Adam and Eve were the first Man and Woman in the world.
Drummond (Spencer Tracy), the Defence suggests that maybe the story of Genesis can be taken allegorically. Adam and Eve are metaphors for the beginning of Humanity. Spencer Tracy points out that in the book of Genesis it goes on about a lot of begetting, and says that Cain and Abel and lots of other family members kept meeting wives in neighboring valleys and so on.
Drummond, Defence (Spencer Tracy) to Brady, Prosecution:
"Where did they [the wives] come from [if there were no other human beings on the planet]?"
"Did GOD pull a fast one [in Creation]?"
"Have you never thought about it?"
Brady: "No".
Drummond: "Ever wanted to think about it?"
Brady: "No, never. I don't think about it. I just accept the word of GOD".
That is where the problem lies, you - and Christians like Brady who refute Evolution included - and so many others don't read the Bible properly, don't think about it, and therefore don't understand it.
The Kabballah is a great source of knowledge - which explains a lot about Genesis and Creation. For example: God created the world in 6 days. As Time is a man made invention and is relative, a day at the beginning of creation can be a million or a billion light years. It doesn't have to be taken literally. Spencer Tracy also discussed this issue in the film.
The story of Cain and Abel, an allegory in itself, is a great morality tale about the Fall of Man.
If a lot of people stopped taking the Bible (and Koran) literally there might be a lot less trouble in the world, and a lot more enlightenment and peace.
"God created man and man being a gentleman returned the favor" -- Inherit The Wind
"He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind:
and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart" -- Proverbs 11:29

This is really simple and basic to see when it's pointed out.
Adam and Eve had many sons and daughters, the bible specifically says that.
The earth was populated through inter-family relations which was perfectly okay AT THAT TIME. The laws against it didn't come until much later in the Levitical laws. We can trust that God himself protected the genes as they were passed, probably distancing each generation farther apart.
It's NOT religious mythology.
It was only about 6000 years ago, not millions.
There was no "Lilith".

Thanks for inspiring so many funny answers .
i don't mean to be rude to people ,but if they put all these crazy pick and patch guess work answers ,trying to make old stories read like facts ,you might expect some scepticism.
Maybe 'god' just 'gave' people kids back then ,or early man was hermaphrodite ,or they made women from ribs, or....?
It's interesting how these old explanations always place the miracles in the depths of history where they are unassailable . And of course unprovable. And not just in Judeo-christian myths, also in every culture in the world . Of course ancient man tried to explain the mysteries of our origins ,and there are a wide variety of ancient explanations.
Modern man also tries to explain these things , and will probably look similarly deluded in times to come.
The nearest we can come to truth is to look very carefully ,with as open a mind as possible at our immediate experience, and avoid conclusions.

actually according to most views of scripture, adam and eve had many children, we just happen to folow the line of cain and abel and seth as far as the narraitive goes. given even a bit larger pool of people, incest was not considered wrong until after the great flood.
