i will give you a recipe and if you want more i have plenty. i have volume 2 of the great depression series cook books and the recipeis are easy and can oviously be made bigger according to family size and are healthy also.
Depression Potata Soup
4 potatoes sliced
1 carrot shredded (i use more diced it varies on what u like and can afford)
1 small onion sliced
1 T salt
1/4 t pepper
enough water to cover
cook 30 minutes
As better times came along we would add 2 cups milk and crumble a slice or 2 of crisp bacon on each serving. over the years we added an egg mixed with1/2 c flour. stir and drizzle over soup for a few minutes. Sprinkle with chedder cheese.
I did not use the bottem part yet I just used this and made ham sandwiches for the meat. it tastes great and healthyy plus it is easy

we have a family of 5 and sometimes 6 when the oldest comes home for dinner so we are always looking for cheap meals. We do chicken leg quarters, you can often find them on sale for 39 or 49 cents a pound sold in a 10 lb bag. We do spaghetti, chili, hot dogs and mac n cheese, hamburgers and french fries..... hope these helped

Grilled cheese & tomato soup is pretty cheap and good!
Black beans & rice is another cheapy meal that's good. You can add a small salad (or any veggie) on the side to even out the meal.
Nothing wrong with omelets either. Mix up some eggs, veggies & cheese and voila! Serve with toast or hashbrowns.

There are no cheap meals if you want them healthy, but try this:
Ramen soup, five packs. That comes to about .50 all together.
Cook the noodles, half way, but dry, not soupy.
Then add half a pound of ground beef, or chicken. Legs are cheap. Cook the meat in 1/2 tsp. of ginger, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cumin, salt & pepper to taste. If you're into heat, try adding some red chiles. Now add a cup of cheap frozen mixed veggies. After that's done, add the mix to the noodles, and 1/4 cup of soy sauce. Cook together about three minutes, then serve. Hope you enjoy. Please send comments, if you do try this recipe, good or bad!
Thanks
Silver

Buy bags of frozen chicken breasts, get some fresh veggies to steam, and either some potatoes or some rice. Marinate the chicken in a tupperware in your favorite flavor 30-minute marinade, then bake it, or BBQ it, and voila'. Cheap, healthy meal for all of you.

When my husband was out of work for three months I learned many new
cheap meals. the one we enjoyed was. Macaroni and peas.
1 8oz can of delmonte tomato sauce
3 cloves of garlic (optional)
1/4th onion chopped fine
1can of peas
In a small sauce pot put a small amount of olive oil add Garlic and
and onions cook until lightly golden, add tomato sauce, and 1 can of
peas. cook at low heat. meanwhile boil water and cook the
macaroni (whatever you desire).I used small shells, when the
macaroni is done add the sauce and enjoy.
Garlic bread or plain italian bread is a must.
