When I attempt to run chkdsk, my computer reports "This type of file system is RAW. Chkdsk is not available for RAW drives". How can I make it work?

I ran "chkdsk c: /f /r" and it gave me the same output with "Cannot lock current drive" also.

This can occur if you are trying to run chkdsk on a bad flash drive or card. You should get it replaced if this is the case. Even if the flash drive was good, it is worthless to run this on a flash drive. They do not have actual file systems. They use virtual file systems.

RAW refers to an unformatted drive, or an unpartitioned drive. I'm not sure where you are running chkdsk. Are you checking the right drive letter?

Your partition bit the dust. You may be able to get the data off it if you're willing to spend a couple of thousand doing it. Otherwise, as someone already rather inelegantly pointed out, it looks like you're screwed, my friend. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

If it's important enough to spend the money, don't do ANYTHING to it. Call OnTrack or some other data recovery service and do what they tell you.

Are you working CHKDSK with the /F (fixes blunders on the disk) swap? if so... perhaps the HD is basically going undesirable... did your laptop comprise any diagnostic utility to attempt the HD?
