I'm not talking about something on the scale of TRUEpeace's "Zionism" question. I'm imagining a scenario in which your specific faith (and no other) is found to be based on a catastrophic misinterpretation of the founder(s) words, or made up whole cloth.

If it matters to anyone about my own faith, I use a "gnosticism" plate to support servings of Taoism, hermeticism, paganism and a side-salad of Native American beliefs. Every so often, I'll go back to the buffet and sample a bit of whatever looks interesting. I'm not interested in Christianity (Protestantism and Catholicism are both equally bland to me), nor Islam nor the Jewish faith, but an occasional helping of Buddhism is quite to my taste, and I'm always up for seconds on Ninpo.

And remember, justifying a buffet-table faith is... another question...

So, what you are asking me specifically is what iIf God himself came to me and said: "Cut this Pagan crap out right now. There is no goddess. Women have no divine presence. You're just a necessary afterthough and only here to birth more good, holy men. Oh, and by the way, rule the earth. Use it up. Show no mercy to the other creatures inhabiting this world. Do all that and I might let you into heaven (but not the cool male side, the second-class chick side.)

Wow. That would really suck. I guess I'd start looking for someone with the power to overthrow a tyrant like that. Sorry, but I don't think I'd want to spend eternity with someone like that.

The only way that would happen would be to die, then never wake up. I guess I wouldn't think about this topic at all, because I wouldn't be able to. The good news for me and my life would be that at least I lived it to the best of my potential-by trying to make people happy and by helping people whenever I had the chance. What other people would see as a sacrifice to freedom and individuality would have actually been thinking a little less of myself and a little more of others. Nothing would make me live my life differently, either, even if I could start over. Because...I lived a life filled with hope.

The good news is that we won't have to worry about this, because you can not disprove something that is not meant to be proved.

God will "prove" his existence when the time is right by fulfilling the scriptures. It won't matter to Christians, however, because most of us have already seen his work in our lives. I hope, if you are in fact an agnostic or an atheist, that you will not spend your entire life without something to believe in.

Oh, you mean like those fictive novels The DaVinci Code and Holy Blood, Holy Grail?

That is hardly proof.

To answer your question, Faith does not demand proof. Only those who believe themselves wise demand proof in matters of Faith. Rather than an enlightened atheist, I prefer being a holy fool.

You find proof, I'll read it, but it has to be based on fact and not some pipe dream written by some idiot who was stoned when he did it.
