I am Catholic and wonder if any Catholics are familiar with this Bible? It's an English translation of the Latin Vulgate Bible, a version universally used in the Church for over 1500 years, and meticulously translated from the original Hebrew and Greek by St. Jerome (A.D. 340-420).

Most Catholics use The New American Bible. I'm wondering if anyone has bought the new edition of the Douy-Rhems Bible that just came out in this Spring. Have they added a new commentary or is it the same as the earlier one?

Do you mean the RSV:CE 2nd Edition? That came out last spring.

The Douay Rhemes is also a bit of a misnomer as that translation has been modified several times since the original edition. First as the Challoner edition in the 18th century and then as the heavily modified Confraternity Bible in the 20th century. The Challoner edition is what most people call the Douay Rhemes today. There has been no English modification of the Douay Rhemes since the Confraternity. The DR has been chiefly replaced by other more accurate English translations. It still is a very useful tool though.

I cannot say I know what you mean by "new edition"...feel free to message me as I would be interested in hearing what you heard.

I s'pose so, but I don't know who. That may be the last Bible that ANY Catholics were familiar with. Except for priests, that is.

Haven't heard of it,. Hope it gives a deeper insight if the translation is as meticulous as you say.
