The teaching hospitals get money from the state and often write off part of the bill if the patient's family is able to contribute a little bit. The private hospitals are a lot more aggressive at trying to collect payment. For help with your current bills, make an appointment (possibly over the phone) to talk to a billing representative from the hospital where the surgeries took place. The Salvation Army has a needy family program. They help needy families pay utilities and rent.

do not accept money from anyone online. there is a scam going on right now where they do this to get your bank information and wipe your accounts out. be careful.
try getting some community support- a fundraising drive or something. or get a loan from an accreditted financial institution such as a bank or credit union.
also, go to the phone book and call up all the hospitals and ask them to refer you to someone who knows about your child's disease.
