Are we gods? Not hardly. The Scripture in Genesis you are quoting refers to having god-like knowledge that good and bad exists. A loss of innocence. That knowledge failed to endow Man with God's Power, or the gift of eternal life.
The next phrase speaks of not allowing Man to partake of the Tree of Life and live forever. A bad trade-off, if you ask me.

In both the Old Testament creation story and in Greek mythology, man was created out of dust and became alive.
But in the Greek story, man came from very special dust -- the ashes of the Titans. In "Iron John," Robert Bly wrote that this helps explain our coldness and our cruelty.
