My emotions change so fast sometimes. I mean one minute I'll be really happy, then I'll go in my room and I'll start crying. I know that I am depressed, and I'm going to start talking to someone next week, but I don't know if it's just depression. I read an article and it was like, is it just depression or are you bipolar? That got me scared, so should I talk to my counselor person about that?

Yes, talk to your counselor about it. I think part of it is being a teenager. I have a 15 year old daughter that is going through exactly the same thing. We already know she has ADD, well, sometimes you can add the H to it :o) With schools just starting your stress levels go way up. I assume you're a girl, so your hormones are going crazy on you on top of it. My daughter drove herself into panic attacks over it. Talking about it helped her a lot. She was really worried about it. We decided if it would continue a couple of weeks into school we go back to see her counselor. I'm somewhat against putting her on medications and rather teach her coping tactics. For now calming music and sticking to certain routines helps a lot. Start a diary, to help figure out what else is bringing on those episodes, stay away from caffeine and do talk to your counselor.

It most likely is not Bipolar Disorder. People who are bipolar will fall into the pit of depression, suicidal depression, for weeks at a time. Then come back to normal, be normal for a little while and then go into their manic states for weeks at a time as well. The manic states can lead to psychotic episodes. People who are manic dont sleep for days, they have excess energy, have racing thoughts, start projects and give up on them after 15 minutes. They literally are manics. Luaghing with other people and crying the next minute does not sound like suicide and psychosis.

In a paragraph it's hard to tell. True Bi-polar disorder has periods of ongoing maniacal "ups" where you can't sleep, you are on overdrive, and not fully in touch with reality.

Mood swings can be caused by a long list of things--virtually all very treatable. Diet is a great place to start, in case you are developing some food allergies or sensitivities. Growing up causes mood swings.

a professional is a good idea, but they are not the bottom line--helping people with mood issues is not an exact science.

Do LOTS of internet research, but not on sites that sell products.

Rapid cycling mood swings (which it sounds like you are describing) can happen for lots and lots of reasons. Finding an answer may take time and patience, and, it may go away on its own.

Sounds as if you are just going through the teen years, yes your hormones are all over the place. Try sitting in the full sun (until your skin turns red), wear some yellow clothing - (will save you from yourself - depression) Stop eating junk food and drinks - they do not help you AT ALL. Try wearing more natural materials like cotton, rather than nylons, polyesters as they are harmful to your health. Wear orange undies, as they will gfive you the energy to get yourself 'up and going'. Chin up, we all went through what you are going through, you will just have to weather the storm. If you are using any over the counter applications ie., moisturisers, lotions, creams etc, try to lessen there usage as they all contain very harmful chemicals that do end up in your bloodstream and will cause you problems further down the track. If you have to, try organic products.

Yes you should talk to a good counselor. Why you feel the way you do is really not that important. Because mental illness is not rational, but create very REAL feelings. Sounds like Bi-Polar to me, but would need more info to be sure.

It can't hurt to talk. But depression at times is a normal part of life. In today's world, everyone thinks there is something wrong with you if you are sad for 5 minutes. I think its healthy.

Yes. Emphatically, yes. You should talk to your counselor. However, you don't state your age in this question ... but if you are a teenager, then mood swings are quite normal and expected. Hormones. Peer pressure.
Don't pigeon-hole yourself.

It sounds to me like bi-polar disorder. You need to talk to a counsellor and they may reccomend you to talk to your doctor to get medication to help you balance out your emotional state. Many medications help regulate mood swings in bi-polar people. Definatly talk to your doctor and therapist see what they reccomend for you to do.
