It may seem like we are removing bacteria when we wash chicken, beef or pork before cooking. Washing meat, however, can lead to cross contamination - spreading bacteria around our kitchens. Washing meat is not recommended for this reason. But wash hands carefully after handling any raw meat.

Most bacteria are found on the surface of meat and poultry. These "germs" will be killed by cooking meat to the recommended internal temperature. Use a food thermometer to check doneness.

Some people wash or soak ham or bacon because they think it might lower the amount of sodium the meat contains. Research has shown that soaking meat does not reduce sodium content to any degree, so soaking is not recommended.

Some people still prefer to rinse meat and poultry before cooking. If you choose to rinse meat or poultry, take some steps to avoid cross contamination. Wash the sink, cutting boards and/or countertop area with plenty of hot, soapy water, then rinse with water and sanitize with a bleach solution (1 teaspoon unscented chlorine bleach per quart of water).

Rinsing steaks, chops or any type of meat off before you cook them is an excellent idea. You will not lose any flavor, due to the fact that all you are rinsing away is surface dirt or bacteria. Rinsing meat off will not make it tough (that's mushrooms). The only cut of meat that I would not recommend rinsing off is ground meat (for very obvious reasons). Make sure you dry the meat off before you cook it or you will not get a nice sear on the meat. Wet meat equals boiled meat, not browned.

Some people do this and I am not quite sure what the purpose is. My mom says she washes chicken to get the germs off...but hello! hehe If your cooking it whats the big deal. I dont believe it will take the flavor away though.

No I don't clean the meat with water but wipe them off with a damp paper towel. Washing the meat will take away the flavor.

I do wash them just a habit though doesnt take the flavor away you season the porkchops after you wash them (if you really want a lot of flavor marinate them for a few hours)

i'd stay faraway from beef in maximum cases as a results of extra microorganisms and micro organism that it consists of in its genetical bloodline than many of the land grazing animals. yet once you opt for to consume beef, notwithstanding if it is packaged in blood, then drain off the blood it is seen on the backside of the kit and purely rinse off the floor beef below working water. If there is not any blood puddle seen, there is not any would desire to bathe nor rinse.

There is no need to wash meat, as long as you cook thoroughly the germs are killed during the cooking process.

no! you never wash any kind of meat, ever! well, unless it is seafood, like mussels, but that's a different story..lol.
just rip open the package and throw on the grill! it also doesn't hurt to add some tasty seasonings either. YUM. :-)

Yes ....I wash all my meats before I cook them......You never know if it was dropped on the floor before packaging
