What type (breed) of dog is it? Some just aren't very toy oriented... also, depending on the breeder he may just not know what a toy is if he never had one before... you might have to teach him what a toy is and how to have fun with it ;-)

Your pup may already be going through separation anxiety and this could be why all he wants to do is cuddle. Have you had him long? Does he whine and follow you everywhere when you leave his side? He could just simply be lonely. Try giving him a large stuffed toy or pillow to cuddle into, this should give him comfort later on when you go back to work especially if it has your scent and his. If he's quite young he may just need time to get comfortable with being the only puppy. Try playing with him while he cuddles, this may help to encourage him. Sometimes pups won't play with their toys while there are people around cuz he already gets his entertainment from the people. Every dog has a different personality so it's hard to say. I would suggest enrolling in an obedience course when he's at the best age recommended by your local trainer. Do you have a dog/puppy park nearby? Get him out there to socialize! Does anyone you know have a pup or dog that he could have short play dates with? This may help him learn how to play and he would be more likely to play on his own. Just be glad he doesn't prefer chewing on everything in site instead of being a sweet cuddly little angel!
Good Luck, hope I was helpful.

I agree, I would say the best thing is to reward him with treats by playing. Dogs can be creatures of habit eventually after teaching them what you want to do. Get him excited then adapt the toy, however make sure the toy is not too big, it has to be just the right size! All in all your pup will slowly start to play.

depending on how old your puppy is, it may be because he's still really little. when puppy's are first born up till around 3-4 months all they do is sleep most of the time. You have to remember that puppy's are just like baby's, they sleep and like to cuddle alot till they are fully aware and comfortable with their new home and surroundings. Don't get upset with him or push him away cause he's just trying to love on you cause you are probably the only thing that brings comfort to him right now. when he gets older, he will soon start to play and drift off of you a bit. till then, when he is a puppy he will look up to you as his mom and expect you to give him the comfort and love he needs to survive. don't turn him down cause he's little and needs that care from you.
when you start work he will get use to your schedule in time. but when you come home, expect to love on him cause he's going to want your full attention. be proud that you have a little heart looking up to you.

8 weeks old is a bit too soon to be away from the mom, so the cuddling makes your pup feel secure. I'm sure he will outgrow it with age (and you'll probably miss it).

He is only 8 weeks old. It is NORMAL for him to want to cuddle. But I agree that you should play with him too and get him used to playing.

my dog likes to cuddle and dont play with toys that I have for him, if he dont want the toys try chew bones. But mostly he just loves you and enjoys your company.

I would say when you guys are cuddling, you engage in play, play with him/her, and also, you can buy it a kennel, start by leaving it for about a minute and start working your way up to days

do the toys have squeakers in it? or bells? it may be afraid of that. but to tell ya the truth he probably just wants to hang out with you and he wants you to throw the toys and stuff.

gradually detatch the dog away from you for increasing duration every other day. it will get used to remain away from you and will develop attachment towards other persons or other things in the household
