You can use the SFC (System File Checker) go to start > run > type SFC then follow the prompts

I use the 98 cd rom to replace most files when I install any new hardware

click start ,run type in sfc, follow prompts ,making sure cd is in drive if this fails drop a copy of the win files on to your system and point to this
