This species was discovered recently in Indonesia, where many other dwarf animal species (ex: dwarf elephants) have been discovered.

Their brain-size was not much larger than chimps and they were on average about three feet tall. But they had tools and made fires.

People who are ignorant of evolution or the science of anthropolgy, may say something ignorant like "this fossil discovery was simply that of a small child or person with dwarfism". Please learn about the science before you say stupid things, once you read about the tests they do to determine age, time period, etc., you will not open your ignorant mouth like that in front of real people.

So, we have a whole other human-like species running around in indonesia. They only perished 12,000 years ago and the islanders still pass along fables describing small human-like creatures.

Were they made in God's image too..cause they were man or ape?

"... In a recent development, Indonesian scientists have strongly refuted many of the sensational evolutionary claims about Flores man (so called in spite of the fact that the skeleton was claimed to actually be that of a woman). The country’s influential Jakarta Post (JP) ran an article on 8 November 2004 titled “RI scientists refute Flores Man finding.” (RI = Republic of Indonesia.)

The article reports Dr. Teuku Jacob, a paleoanthropology professor from Gadjah Mada University, as saying:

“The skeleton is not a new species as claimed by these scientists, but simply a fossil of a modern human, Homo sapiens, that lived about 1,300 to 1,800 years ago.”

While acknowledging the small brain size (380 cc, less than that of a chimp) and obvious differences with typical modern humans, he apparently stated that the remains were those of a member of the “Australomelanesid race, which had dwelled across almost all of the Indonesian islands.”

Philosophically I would say that man was made in God's image but that it didn't necessarily mean EXACTLY. I believe in evolution within a species. Ex. people are taller, live longer etc than in previous eras (whether it be through physical evolution or evolution of the mind and the capacity to develop medicine and better nutrition) but still, we qualify as people just as our ancestors did. If Hobbit People are people, yes they were made in God's image. Got made people in many different forms, colors, shapes, sizes....Look at the physical evolution from (if you look at currently understood science) living in Africa originally to living in Scandinavia. Adaptations (aka evolution) have been proven within the human species. I see no reason to believe that Hobbit People could not be people nor do I see proof that they HAD to have been humans. There is very little DNA separation between Chimpanzee's, chickens and humans. Still, chickens are not humans. I think it has more to do with existing as a sentient being who is able to understand the concept of God.

A == This is OLD news. At least two years old. Where've you been?
B == I'm assuming you don't realize how the "hobbit" is intensely problematic for evolutionary theory, as it has crushed several popular theories of human evolution (most specifically, that increased brain size allowed for abstract thought).
C == You evidently have no idea what "G-d's image" means.

You really believe they found that stuff?! Its been proven over and over that most of the stuff they "find" is made up to prove evolution. And one wierd looking man they found wasn't a different species at all but a sick hunched back diseased man!

Nobody knows the answer to your question. That's why there are people that believe in Creationism and others that believe in Darwinism and still others that believe in ANYOTHER-isms you can think of.

We were made in HIS image; Head, Body, Legs...
