Canon are good, but I have been more than happy with my Fuji F700. It has video mode (with sound) that you can set to one of several qualities.

You can change shutter-speeds etc if you want to for better regular photos, and it also has the regular modes (landscape, portrait, night, sport etc).

I found the Fuji much easier to operate than either Olympus or Canon and the results were just as good, if not better on both pictures and videos.

The F700 was originally sold at £400+ to the professional market, but Fuji brought the price down when they realised that it was perfect for 'normal' users too. It is still very much a professional camera though, and has been praised as such. I wouldn't change mine for any other!

A website (see below) says the following good things about its video mode:

"Movie Mode

The movie mode on the F700 is as good as it gets. You can shoot VGA quality video (640 x 480) at 30 frames/second, until the memory card is full. Sound is recorded as well. You can only store 13 seconds of VGA video on the included 16MB xD card (or 26 seconds at 320 x 240). A 256MB card can hold about 3.7 and 7.3 minutes, respectively.

Like most cameras, you cannot use the zoom during filming.

Movies are saved in AVI format, using the M-JPEG codec."

The Panasonic DMC LZ5 offers something different to many digital cameras. It is an easy to use, point and shoot camera, but with a longer (6x) than standard optical zoom lens. Picture quality is good and the camera has optical image stabilisation. It has a video mode at 30 frames per second and you can also record sound with still pictures. Well worth checking out. Available for around 150 pounds.
