As long as you believe Jesus died on the cross for your sins and you are truly sorry for them you will go to heaven.

Alcoholism is a sin just like divorce, adultery, etc. With God it can be cleaned up in a persons life - it doesn't have any bearing on a persons going into heaven. The only requirement for heaven is the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your personal savior and upon that acceptance you will have a genuine desire to repent, turn from the sins in your life, and as they come back and haunt you from time to time, as sin does, then you will repent, and it will not have cost you your salvation, it will just have cost you a moments break in your relationship with the Lord, but he's always ready to rebuild and take you back in and let you learn and grow so that you can reach out to those around you who have the same struggles. The more of Christ you desire and the more he is all you seek, the less of the vices you will want in your life because you will see them as Christ sees them. You're going to do just fine, both of you, because you're aware that you need more than what the vices offer.

Yes they certainly might. God alone can decide what kind of afterlife you will have.
If your "vices" are causing you to question your behavior and your spirit, you may be well served to look at why those behaviors are troubling you or what purpose those vices are serving in your life that might be better served by other behaviors.
I can guarantee you that one church I know of, the United Church of Christ (not just Church of Christ, get the United in there), will welcome you no matter what you have done or who you are. There are probably other denominations as well. These good people will help you to find answers to your questions and could even give you valuable guidance in finding your way in life and furthering your relationship with God.
There are other paths as well, this is just the one I'm most familiar with.

You're going to have to read the Bible to find the answers for yourself (not that I don't want to help you, but there are a lot of false prophets in this world who will tell you what's right and wrong). I believe it's better to seek the truth yourself. John 3:16 says that "God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him shall not be lost, but have eternal life." In my opinion, if you are a true Christian (a follower of Jesus Christ), your life should be a reflection of that. You must believe in the Lord with all of your heart and all of your mind. You must follow the path of Jesus. He showed love and compassion for all people, but He also didn't have any vices (drinking, gambling, etc.). That's just my beliefs.

We do not go to Heaven because we are good. Romans 3:10 There is none righteous no, not one. We go to Heaven because of the righteousness of Christ and what He did for us on the Cross, and the only way to get there is, by putting your trust in Him and asking Him to come into your heart and life and be your Lord and Saviour. And going to a catholic convent sure won't do it.

Alcoholism and gambling are addictions which are treatable. I am not sure God would condemn someone whose alleged sin is truly a 'sickness.' I believe He looks at the whole picture.
In these cases God alone decides.
In any case, if for no other reason than your own well-being, seek help for your addictions.
Best of luck.

No one can tell you whether or not you are going to heaven, like wise know one has the authority to tell if you are going to hell! i hate when people say your a sinner your going tohell, because they dont know that, only God does. Just keep God in your heart and when making choices in life think of him and always be thinking about that little spot in Heaven where you would like to be. Dont think you should party now and then when your dying ask for forgiveness, always just be thankful for the chance you have to redeem yourself in Gods heart. It is never to late to turn your life in the right direction.

The Bible teaches that only those who receive the gift of God can go to heaven. What is the gift of God? "For by grace are you saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast." Eph. 2:8-9.
Good works are good, but they won't get you to heaven. "Except a man be born again, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God"(John chapter 3). How can a man be born again? This is the same question that the pharasee asked of Jesus. Acts chapter 31 tells us that, "if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved". This word "believe" does not mean to mentally acknowledge. It means to choose to trust.
Hebrews tell us that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin. We must choose to trust in Jesus' sacrifice. This is the only means of salvation. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes unto the Father but by me."

Your question is a good one and one that is truly difficult. There is also much to say so I'll stick to one point while other deal with different aspects of it.
How do you know that what you are perceiving as 'good' is in fact really 'good?' The actions that you see them engaging in [meaning the good works] undoubtedly have in them much that is worthy form a human vantage point. But, what is the full scope, i.e. the internal as well as the external value? The height of purity that is necessary for something to be objectively 'good' to satisfy the Divine, as a perfect Being, is only perfection. Do you really think we can accomplish that?

depends on if she believes in Jesus or not. here's the way i think about it, thinking 'outside the box' k? the bible says christians need endurance overall. if you give up, how can God change your ways? so you go to God as an alcoholic, he changes you over time, after the alcohol isnt 'fun' anymore, and since it doesnt solve anybody's problems anyways. all sin leads to death, and eventually all fleshly carnal things become not enough anymore. u use all your money up on gambling, u rot your liver out drinking, you will in the end, turn to God. so He will change you before it comes to all that. i think anyways :)

No. The Bible is very clear about this. It is not good works that get us into heaven, but rather God's grace and mercy. So this way nobody can boast. You both sounds like victims of the Catholic church. Many people are unfortunately. You both sound like very loving, kind, generous people. I promise you, if you commit to Christ and become born again as it says in the gospel of John, you will escape your prisons thru His love and grace. Both of yous I will pray for sincerely and heartfelt.
