Im not sure if the my dog a wire fox terrier is deaf , he doesnt respond to a clap or his name.

Does he come when he's called? Does he hear the door bell ring? Most dogs will react (even if its just with their eyes, or ears) to a loud sound.
If you notice he/she is not responding to your commands, could be he has a hearing problem/deaf. Try teaching him sign language - or sign with your hands for commands. Dogs are very smart they will pick it up in no time.

If you have made loud noises and got nothing than he probably is.I had a deaf ferret once I would use vibration of the ground or a gate or something to test him .I hope that made since Have you tried ringing your door bell.If that doesnt work and he doesnt hear that than somethings up.

Well if call his name or make a loud noise does he look or pay and attention to you if they don't the are probably deaf you can take them to the vet and they can do a test on them to be sure.

The only true way to check to see if your dog is DEAF. Is by Auditory Brain Stem Response Evaluation BARE testing.

try turning the vacuum on and seeing if the dog reacts. not if hes scared, but if he acknowledges the noise. if he doesnt take him to the vet. BTW 25% of dalmations are deaf, if urs is one

Not responding to you. Not reacting to noises he/she would normally react to. But, to be sure, take your dog to the vet. There is a test they can do, BAER, to be absolutely sure. There may be underlying causes for this condition which can be treated.

Put some rocks or pennies in a pop can. Don't let him see you coming. Come up behind him and shake the can. If he doesn't react, then he can't hear.
