ive had it for over a year and it shouldnt be hurting, i clean it often so i dont get it?! it feels like a couple days after i just got it pierced, its soar and my glands feel swollen. we tried to take it out to clean it better but we cannot unscrew the dammed thing at all. there seems to be no infection. so, could it possibly be my wisdom teeth growing in that could be causing this pain??

Look, you need to take it out. Give your tongue a rest. I had one for 5 years before i took it out. You could have bitten it or irritated the tongue in your sleep who knows. BUt i would take it out for a few days and go from there. IF you are worried about the hole closing, well you can push it back through once a day but i have had mine out for years now and i can still put it through anytime if i want.
Get your mouth dry and the ball dry and just get someone to help you remove it. It might just be stuck on a thread and need a good turn. Does only one ball come off? MIne always came off from both sides..

My tongue piercing gets uncomfortable on occasion too and I've had mine for 10 years. Have you been sick, throwing up, to where you have been using your tongue more than normal? Or coughing and catching it on your bottom teeth? Did you change it in the recent past to a bigger gauge barbell? Unless it is really swollen, like right after you got it pierced, I would think it will be just fine. I highly doubt it has anything to do with your wisdom teeth but, hey, I'm no doctor.

The best way to get it out if it is being stubborn is, with very dry fingers and barbell, keep trying to unscrew it. Unless it got cross threaded last time you put it in it should eventually work itself loose. If there is any plaque built up on the bottom of the barbell, try scraping it away with a toothpick or other pointy, sharp object.

Good luck.

latex gloves from the pharmacy are wonderful for getting balls to unscrew on piercings. You should be able to tell the difference between pain from teeth and your tongue so I'll assume it's the tongue. Its most likely a small tear in the piercing from almost anything (eating, oral sex, playing with it, etc) and should subside in about a week. Try taking ibuprofen to help swelling. It's rather difficult to get an infection in a tongue piercing as there is plenty of blood flow (white blood cells!) in this muscle and your natural oral bacteria to kill harmful bacteria off. There is no need to remove the barbell to clean it, just brush it top and bottom with your toothbrush and this will remove the plaque build up.
