Both cities are very different.
New York has more aggressive mentality, people are always on the run, and NY is the financial capital of the world.
Los Angeles is laid back, relaxed, beautiful weather, spacious living as everything is so spread out.
NY is a bit more expensive than Los Angeles, but not by much. The answer would depend on what industry you will be working in, and whether the pay will be at a level that you can build wealth compared to expenses.
Good luck in making a choice.

That totally depends on what you're looking for. New York is packed like a sardine can and moving about the city can be a nightmare. Not to mention...if you aren't from New York, it's gonna take a little getting used to. It's never quiet and there's always someone withing 50 feet of you no matter where you are. On the other hand...there are always things to do...you'll never get bored.
Los Angeles has beautiful weather, vast open spaces and suburbs as you move away from downtown, beaches, the Sunset strip, great shopping, and earthquakes (which I happen to kinda like, I know I'm wierd). Then again, mass amounts of pollution, traffic is some of the worst in the nation, and a lot of the people (though not all of them) are very materialistic, self-involved, and fake. California is like a breakfast cereal...full of flakes, nuts, and fruits!
All in all, the west coast is more laid-back with more scenic areas and recreation and the east coast is more up-tight and crowded with major cities and a plain landscape.
It all depends what means more to you...massively urbanized areas or massively urbanized areas surrounded by some of the most beautiful terrain in the world.

They say if you like culture go to NY, LA has none. I say they have never been here in LA. There is more to culture than theater. Speaking of culture, the horticulture is fabulous in LA. You can grow orchids in your yard, as long as you protect them from frost or live up hill. Apples may be a challenge but tropical fruit does well.
Most of the natives (born in LA) are nice and even friendly, but there are a lot of snobby imports (NY has them too) who moved the the big city for anonymity, to escape the small towns where everyone knew their business. Not that they are really snobs, they like their privacy a bit too much to share a smile.
Some get mighty rich while others are very poor. Jobs do not compensate for cost of living like it does in the smaller citys, but they say LA beats NY when it comes to finding a home/apartment/house.
The white fluffy stuff almost never falls from the sky in LA and hot'n'humid is very rare there, unlike NY which gets muggy in the summer and snows in the winter. But LA has the hot'n'dry summers.
NY should worry about earthquakes, they were overdue in the late 80's for one around 6.5. Or so the USGS said in the late 80's. And NY doesn't have the earthquake building codes that LA has. But stay away from Calif.'s San Andreas fault, it's about 30 years overdue.

it really is humorous. I stay good on the border of ny and NJ, so it really is particularly interesting to me. in case you imagine the staff is undesirable, properly ny & NJ purchasers are the worst! Thats probable why the waitresses commence off with a nasty concepts-set. Its a protection mechanism. I`ve genuinely been a soreness interior the in the back of purchaser interior the previous, then I genuinely have a guilt holiday afterwards. Yeah we've undesirable attitudes over right here. SORRY! I`ve been to NC and to Egypt, and that i`ve seen fairly praiseworthy service. Thats how i recognize we've were given blameworthy service over right here.

LA has more money of course
LA has a lot more pollution than NY though which can affect your quality of life I guess, and maybe your health too
NY I think has a better job opportunities because of Wall Street
people are happier in LA I think though. how can you be sad when it's sunny 364 days a year?
