Do you think that if you worked really hard for something, do you believe you could surpass a genius at it? If you wanted to be a gymnast, would you be able to work really hard at it and be able to jump great heights and do amazing acrobatic moves? Or do you believe that everybody has their own "specialty" and is limited to certain others. (And I ask this in the diet & fitness section mainly because I ask about being a great athlete and gymnast)

many people with natual talent and bodies with genetic advantages never become great at their sport or endeavor

lots of people without the natural advantages have become great in their sport or endeavor

a person that has the natural talent and body AND the drive and work effort and mindset will achieve a higher level than the athlete with one or the other

the same is true for music, math, and other endeavors of the mind and body

so, most people could be very good at many endeavors

only a few could be really really great, and most of them that could, don't

Edison is famous for saying that "genius" is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. So from this I would imagine he thought that a lot of "genius" comes from hard work.

I really don't follow your logic about gymnastics and athletics, since that is a physical and not mental activity. So whether or not you are a genius doesn't really enter it, does it?

You can improve your athletics with technique, which utilizes mental skills like concentration and memorization. But someone who is simply better equipped for the activity could still be better at it than you are, no matter if you are a "genius" or not.

Hope this helps!

Not all geniuses become good at what they do. A friend of mine was capable of being a music child prodigy but never practiced so she got no where. I was told I would never be good in music but I practiced and I ended up surpassing her.
I think you can come close to genius but I think some people have limits.
After I surpassed her I've had difficulty getting past a particular point.

Not to be politically correct, but it has already been proven time and time again that the harder workers can surpass the 'gifted' in a given specialty. But I will also say that if the geniuses applied themselves in that area, then they would beat the hard worker. We each have certain gifts...unfortunatley I think the majority of us go through our lives without knowing and finding them.

Often talent at some skill is highly dependent upon chosing good parents.

No. You can develope a talent but there are certain characteristic you have that will give you an advantage. A short thick person is not going to be as good at gymnastics as a tall lithe one. ...its simply a matter of physics.

Motivation is always better than natural talent. Most people that are naturally good at something don't feel they need to work at it and can be eventually surpassed by someone with more determination. It's the belief in youself and your abilities(even if you don't have them yet) that makes anything possible. You can be anything and do anything you want if you believe in and never doubt yourself.

absolutely. and if i may add, genius is kind of a subjective term, and despite its connotations, it doesn't have anything to do with the productivity or diligence of a person. there are some geniuses who can't even function normally because they're so caught up in the bends and whorls of their own ... well ... genius.

the end.

i think anyone can do ANYTHING with dedication, hard work and luck...
i also recognise that everyone has their own "gift"
so yeah, maybe an average joe struggling to match a "genius" in the former's specialty might be a long shot...
best olde mate joe find his own "genius subject"....and let others try to beat him at it!

I think it may depend on your natural abilities. Hard work and training can only ever help you, but I think some people are just blessed with certain innate characteristics or talents for certain things.

I think if you want to be a great athlete and you put your whole heart into it and work really hard, you will be one of the best.
