All one has to do is take a look at the American prison system. Nearly 76% of violent criminals are Christian and NO, most of these Christians did not convert after conviction, they were Christian at the time of the crime. The greatest genocides in human history stemmed from the Christian faith. If you examine secular societies in comparison to religious societies; secular societies will consistently have less crime, unemployment, corruption and more freedom, share of wealth and a higher standard of living. Nearly EVERY single advancement towards morality (I.E: ceasing native genocide, freeing the slaves and women’s suffrage) was OPPOSED by the church and Christian organizations.

Totally agree with you, religion is humanity's greatest evil. Sad but true.

Religion is responsible for the majority of wars, conflict and murder of innocent life since humanity began. There is considerable evidence to classify religion as evil, and talk of religion (Gods etc) should be banned. Because the records prove over and over again throughout humanity that religion is clearly responsible for crimes against humanity, taking part in any religious activity should also be outlawed and made a criminal offence.

The world would be a much happier and peaceful place if religion ceased to exist. Although there are some decent religious believers and preachers, they are unwittingly spreading evil around our world, and that they should simply keep their beliefs and thoughts to themselves in the best interests of humanity, or suffer the consequences for their actions.

People should consider that the world would be like Heaven if religion ceased to exist, but all the believers and preachers have turned the planet into Hell.

Religion is a serious mental illness. It’s the inability to face the reality of life and the finality of death. It affects 85% of the USA and 75% of US victims are Christians. The more pathetic and desperate a persons life, the more likely they are to believe in a god. People with otherwise empty lives, are the strongest believers. It gives them false hope that there’s a higher meaning to their sad and pathetic lives.

My studies and research shows that religious people are not exactly rocket scientists, they tend to be below average intelligence, and also have a tendency to be more violent than non-believers. In some cases, the more violent the person, the more religious they are. I suspect that the vast majority of religious people are well below average intelligence.

Science suggests that religion is a mental illness and that religious people act irrationally because they are genetically predisposed to the “religious or spiritual” gene. Statistics indicate that the higher your education, income, and intelligence, the more likely you are not to believe in a god.

80% of the world’s population is religious.
80% of the world’s violence and wars are caused by religion.
80% of religious people are of below average intelligence.

There are numerous examples of the above, but such statistics are ignored or more importantly, deliberately concealed by religious groups.

The list is endless, but yes I agree with you, religion is evil.

I wouldn't hold that 76% against the rest of American Christianity. I imagine some convicts were baptised as children, and that was the extent of their religious education.

You're generalizing on a big scale here. Christian societies may be guilty of some of the worst genocides in recent human history, but consider that human history extends well past written history. In other words, there's a lot we don't know about. You're also making statements of fact without offering any foundation for your beliefs (which is what they are at this point, not "statements of fact").

It's a good question, but any point you're trying to make is offset by your emotional tone. Back your beliefs up with some solid research before presenting your conclusions as facts.

Major world religions such as Christianity and Islam are inherently amoral - They do not judge behaviour according to whether it is moral, but according to whether it is 'sinful', i.e. whether or not it is consistent with the orders of the religion's deity. Atheism, by contrast, allows for true morality, since the atheist worldview allows actions to be judged good or bad according to conscience, which is the true definition of morality.

In the theistic worldview, anything goes as long as it is imagined to be the wishes of the deity... and virtually any atrocity can and has been justified in this way. This is how all oppressive regimes succeed, whether it be Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia or Iraq under Saddam - The most hideous crimes can be justified on the basis of "just following orders".

Furthermore, anyone imagining that they can make moral pronouncements from a religious basis is faced with an insurmountable problem: In tying their pronouncements to religious claims, their pronouncements are invalid until they can provide logically satisfactory evidence that the claims are true, and this they will never be able to do, so therefore any moral viewpoints based on religion should be dismissed as irrelevant.

First of all, you're making trouble. It's a bad idea, and completely unapreciated. Two, there are extremeists on both sides, people just like to point out the faults of the Christians more because they're supposed to be "perfect" and the best in morals. Three, everybody has morals, some more than others, Christian or not.

Here we go again. Piece by piece (but leaving plenty to be figured out later)

-Stating that you are a Christian means nothing. I could claim on paper to be a native of Turkey, but that wouldn't make it so.

-I never said atheists have no morals, nor has the Bible. The Bible states that you are completely incapable of doing anything pleasing to God if you don't recognize Him, and accept His Son to be His Son.

-Where is your documentation that the Church and Christian org.'s opposed, as a whole, any of these advancements towards morality?

-Hey, wait! Where's is ANY evidence that supports these claims? For every attempt at genocide commited by misguided people under the guise of Christianity, I can find one that was an attempt at genocide OF Christianity. Your claims have no scientific or logical base, and are therefore ridiculous. MY defenses (if you offer anymore opposition) will all be purely scientific and verifiable. Hmm?

Wow let's let's just look at the massive genocide of the last century by humanistic atheists shall we. Under Lenin, Stalin, and Kruschev in the USSR from 1917 to 1959 it looks like a one of your wonderful secular societies due to repression and torture caused the deaths of 66,700,000 people
In Cambodia your wonderful secular society thanks to such wonderful humanitarian leaders as Pol Pot 8 more million people were slain. sometimes more than 500 a day.
What about the deaths of 26.3 million dead people during the reign of Mao Tse Tung

Hey but what do a few hundred million dead people, have to do with the "facts" you like to present. Where's your information that backs your cause or are you not simply re-spewing the same garbage you've heard over and over. Salem witch trials, under 20 dead, European witch trials 30,000, Crusades 300,000, the inquisition about 2000, put em all together you don't even get a million, factually you are just wrong

Although I like what you have written, your comment is completely biased. Secular societies have also committed great atrocities. Both Nazi Germany and the former soviet union were secular societies that committed some of the most heinous genocides of history. Its hard to talk about genocide while leaving these obvious ones out.

Can you cite a document that proves the Church has opposed freeing of slaves and stopping of genocide? In the world of reasons, a statement can only gain merit if grounded on proof.

I can tell anything about anyone, including myself, but proof is absolutely needed to even begin a discussion.

A so called Christian from this very website e-mailed me with an offer of the sexual nature. I e-mailed back that I had a boyfriend and was not intrested in cheating on him. His response was "Why do you non-believers lie? No one but Christians are moral, so you must sleep around!"

I'll let the hilarious hypocracy of that sink in.

Yep, it's a pretty popular myth to claim people other than your own religion have no morals. it couldn't be true for one reason. If Other Religions and Non-Belivers had no morals there would be bodies of one specific religion piled in the street from being murdered from getting in someone elses face once too often.
