I'm very nervous about my first year of high school.. I don't really have any friends.. I had a bunch but I didn't want to do drugs so I left them. Most of my high school is all preps and then goths/stoners. I don't have enough money to be a prep. and my parents disapprove me hanging out w/ "goths". I'm really nervous and don't even want to go to school now. How do I make new friends? I'm so scared!! Any advice would be great please!!!!

It is ok to be nervous. As far as friends go, just look for the one's like yourself, that don't fit into the other clicques. There you will find your new friends.
Good luck!

Most of your school is preps and goth/stoners. That might not mean that all are like that. Don't lose hope and try to make new friends. Also, you said you're starting your first year of high school? There are probably similar freshman as you worried about their first year of high school. Try to find people like those. Also, be individual. Don't worry about what others think. Some people may even think you're cool for being different(meaning not a prep or goth/stoner). Remember one thing. A trend setter is someone who creates a new fad, that no one knows about, and then people like the trend and that's how they get popular. I'm not telling you to be one, but make your own group of friends. You can create a club about your interests like music, fashion, movies, etc. Schools usually encourage that kind of thing. Make the most of your high school life!

Also, good job on not joining the stoners. Drugs don't solve any problems. You know, you can also start a club that appeals to teens; talking about problems, feelings, why teens take drugs, etc.

Another thing you can do is join a sport or the musical/play or be part of the student government. That usually makes friends.

All these are suggestions. No matter what you do make the most of your high school life! Good luck!

Just dress the best way that you can, actually you can go to wal-mart and still dress preppy, it's not where you buy the clothes from it's how u wear them. So if you go in there with your own way of dressing you will have a lot of friends, believe that. But i just want you to know high school is very different from junior or elementary school. Also if you join a club you'll get a lot of friends like that too. So GOOD LUCK and don't be scared

just be yourself - chances are someone is in the same boat you are - find that person and you will become friends - don't let anyone force you to do something you don't want to do or be. Don't be shy about introducing yourself to others - if it is big high school - then there are a whole bunch of different people to hang with - try a few and see who you are compatible with! It is scary - but the key is just to try and be yourself - this is the time to find out about yourself and the person you are developing into! Good luck!

Join whatever clubs are there. Talk to people before and after class.
Second, don't put too much stock in the high school cliques. They change almost every day, and come graduation they really won't matter that much.
Thirdly, remember it's quality not quantity. There's no use in being super popular if all your "friends" can't remember your birthday or your fave color. It's better to have one or two good friends you can count on, and that takes time and effort.

Ah yes, freshman year of HS. Its ok, my oldest son is goanna have the same problems. Trust me, dont sweat it, I've been there, done that. I started middle school not knowing anyone. I ended up hanging out with metal heads at the time.

Just hang out with people with whom you get along with. Besides, I dont see what your parents think are so bad about goths. My daughter is more goth/punk and I totally encourage it. I hate preps and of course stoners. Preps are 110% two faced *******, and stoners, well, duh... I think it goes without explanation. Hang out with people you get along with. Who cares what your parents think. As long as you are not f-ing up, failing your classes, doing drugs, drinking, etc... It shouldn't matter who you hang with, right? Oh yeah, stay away from any bible thumpers as well.

Tell your parents I said to relax.

I am going into my first year in hs too. Try to make friends by being your self, and try to be friendly to other people. If that doesn't work out try to focous on one main thing like your school work, or a site on the internet, and spend your time concentrating on that. I don't have that many friends at school like you, but i go onto this roleplaying site when you pretend to be another person, and i made friends that way. If you want to try that out there is a harry potter site called www.hswcw.com
I hope I help you.

BE URSELF...IM SURE UR NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT ISNT A STONER OR A PREP U HAVE TO FIND OUT WHO THE NORMAL PEOPLE ARE AND TRY AND HANG OUT WITH THEM...DONT EVER EVER JOIN A STUPID GROUP JUST BECAUSE U FEEL LEFT OUT. I THINK ITS GREAT THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO WALK AWAY FROM THE OTHER GROUP...U COULD EVEN TRY EXTRA ACTIVITIES LIKE SPORRTS OR THINGS U LIKE U R LIKELY TO MEET PEOPLE WHO LIKE THE SAME INTRESTS...

Be like me you little freshman you. Except for the "i like drugs" part, be yourself and ignore who you're parents dissaprove of. I'm not gothic, but i'm friends with them, I'm not prep, but I'm friends with some. Money doesn't really matter as long as your cool with yourslef. And I'm a senior, so I have to say this.
YOU STUPID FRESHMAN! Jk, but yeah watch out for flying pennies and don't stand to close to the garbage cans...if you are a freshman. Yep...
You'll get used to it, don't be scared kiddo.

Oh, and don't be so obnoxious, like all the other classmen. You won't get anyone that way.

Chill. I know your high school. That's what mine seemed like, but you will find your group. I was a "floater", but in the end I guess a friend to all. You don't meet your real friends until college anyway, so just try to get good grades and have a good time. You'll be fine...TRUST ME!
