I give my cat a bath once a week and everytime he will get real stiff like it almost paralyzes him and then he will pee. I use just regular cat fleat and tick shampoo, could that be causing it? After I get him out of the bath he will be stiff for awhile kinda like he's paralyzed but after i get him dryed off about 10-15 mins. later he is ok.

There is no reason to give a cat a bath every week! If your doing it for flea problems then get frontline plus flea drops. Bathing a cat this much is not good for the cats skin at all. Over the counter flea shampoos are down right dangerous for cats anyways. Often it has been known to kill cats. Hartz products are the worse. The only cats that need frequent baths then only every 6 to 8 weeks.are long haired cats persians ect. other wise a few times a year is enough for any cat.
Your cat is peeing because its scared and does not like the baths. Stop torturing the poor cat and quit it with the baths.

I really don't think that it is the shampoo, but then again, I can't use certain types of flea treatments on my cat because she will just lay on the floor and not move. And when she is forced to move she scurries along the floor as if being weighed down. I would try not using the shampoo and see if it helps. Also, try to make your cat feel more secure in the water. Search for "why do cats hate water" and you should find a best answer that was written by a vet tech to make cats more comfortable in water.

Hi there...your kitty is overwhemed with tremendous fear, which is why he becomes paralyzed and loses control of his bladder. All cats don't like being bathed and some react as scared as your little guy--a statistical fact that any vet can confirm. However, there are some exceptions, but those cats who like being bathed are very unusual. Because your kitty is reacting quite so negatively to the bathing it may be best to discontinue bathing him and consider some alternative I've listed within this answer. Unlike dogs, cats are exceptional at grooming themselves so there's no need to bathe them and it will be one less thing for you to do as well. :-) BUT...if you want to help use unscented baby wipes. All cats spend a large percentage of their days grooming themselves and they are experts at it. They use their barbed tongues and lick dirt and debris off their fur in order to keep it clean and odour free. Cats with long hair may require the occasional bath if their fur gets too oily, but with regular brushing that may eliminate bathing. There are also occasional times when your cat's fur may get excessively dirty due to some mishap that the cat has gotten itself into. In some of these cases it may be necessary to give your cat a bath, but generally it isn't required and sometimes babywipes will be all that is needed if that's the case. :-)

Well, cats are notorious for hating the water. Most cats anyway. He is probably just really scared, as many dogs will pee when they are scared. I would cut down on the baths to once or twice year. I have never given my cat a bath as they clean themselves reallly well. If fleas are on your cat, advangage will take care of this.

In case you didn't know.....cats HATE water!
They have a natural mechanism for cleaning themselves. It's called a "tongue".Unfortunately this causes hairballs in some of them.
The only time you should bathe your cat is if it ALREADY has parasites (fleas, ticks, etc.),or somehow manages to get it's self filthy.
You (and the cat!) would be better off if you got him a flea collar , and brushed him a few times a week!

Cats are scared of water. That's why he pees - he's scared. I HAD to give my cat a bath once and she pooed. I felt absolutely terrible. Please stop bathing your cat - it should be perfectly capable of cleaning itself and you're making it very unhappy.
