Today's Egyptian magicians still know how to do that trick.
It involves inducing the snake to stay still into a staff-shape, also the "magician" can make it coil with the head pointing to the frot and wear it like a hat.
Ancient Egypt knew many tricks.
One was where they'd place a fire upon the base of a statue holding a wine jar and wine would pour out of it after a prayer to the god. (The trick was that the heated wine was inside a hollow statue and it would escape the inside when heated.)
Another involved magnets placed in a roof to make it appear an iron statue was floating in mid-air.

Trickery on the side of the Egyptian priests-- that's why the other snake ate it-- to prove superiority.
The staff to snake trick is still done by the fakiers in India.
It is a neat trick (using a stiffened snake that then begins to move!)

If Anything the Egyptian Gods were more real. Egyptian History is filled with their Gods walking amoung them and preforming miracles. They would talk to people. The Egyptians required no faith, their Gods touched them and shaped their lives. Compared to the stories of their faith the Christan God is kind of a couch potato.

I once threw my staff down the stairs and had to go to prison for two years. The gods were lucky that their staff merely turned into assorted snakes. I'd like to see how they'd manage a two year term in Hull.

Aaron did his by the hand of God, the magicians did theirs by sleight of hand.
But, in answer to your question, Our own Commandment states that we may have no other Gods before our God.
So, while these Egyptian Gods were not real in any sence of the word, they were real to the minds of those who worshipped them.
I can worship a stone, that does not make it a real God to anyone but me and anybody that might want to do it along with me.
So, when God commands that we have no other Gods before him, he is simply telling us that anything that we make more important to ourselves than he is to us, is worshipping a God (created by us) other than our own creator.
Now a days, our Gods are money, power, hobbies etc.
Same thing, different day is all.

No Gods are real, and all Gods are just fake creations by man, including the latest one.
Humanity has created many Gods, for example – Gods of Olympus, Ancient Egypt, Babylon and so on. Most of us are atheists about most Gods humanity has created, except the latest craze, the current God in the Bible. Learned atheists have also rejected this version of a God, but some hard-core believers still hang on, presumably until a better image of God is created by man.
Faith in God seems to be nothing more than humans attempting to run away from reality, an excuse to avoid thinking and evaluating evidence. Faith is just an emotional escape and really just a substitute for opening your eyes to reason.
Believers talk about God creating man in his own image. It’s in the Bible so it’s fact – get a grip, get real. The facts suggest the exact opposite. Man created God in his own image. I’m sure humanity will disregard this God, as they have disregarded all previous Gods, it’s just a matter of time before humanity creates another God that better serves their emotions and image.

They're real in the sense that the Egyptians created them and worshipped them, left images and stories about them. Are/were they real true beings? I say no.
It sounds like trickery on both sides to me.
