God did tell the Israelites to destroy Jericho, Right?

This city was taken in a very remarkable manner by the Israelites (Josh. 6). God gave it into their hands. The city was "accursed" (Hebrew: herem, "devoted" to Jehovah), and accordingly (Josh. 6:17; compare Lev. 27:28,29; Deut. 13:16) all the inhabitants and all the spoil of the city were to be destroyed, "only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron" were reserved and "put into the treasury of the house of Jehovah" (Josh. 6:24; compare Num. 31:22,23, 50-54).

That is a moot question because God or Jesus would never ask anyone to commit an act of violence. That would be committing a sin.
God destroyed violence because he was against it.

Genesis 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

God saw that the earth was filled with violence which is what the words "before God" means.

Genesis 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

This next scripture clearly shows you how God feels about violence...
Proverbs 4:17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

Proverbs 28:17 A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

During these modern times and where the inhabitants of this world are living now, I think God and His Son, the good Lord Jesus, will not come down and ask me or anybody to commit an act of violence. He never did and He never will. Our God is a loving God and He is out there to protect us. If anything really bad should happen to us, it is because we did not listen to God's words and teachings.

If God or Jesus told you to commit an act of violence, would you do it?
No, because I have discernment to know that it wouldn't be coming from God....as for Jericho, Jericho was going against God's people and God simply enabled His people the power through them to defeat them....such as it always has been and always will be when the ''Chosen" are smited by others...they will always be crushed...like it or not, it's just the way it is.

There are a lot of people out there doing acts In the name of our Lord and do not test the Spirit as the Bible says to do.If the act Is against the word of God (and look to the new testamant too)then you do not do it,Most people have done things, and they are acts of violence, etc In the name of the Lord and It Is against the word Of God.
The Bible says to test all Spirits If they are of God or not and IN my own life I wait on the Lord and continue to pray before I do or say anything.Remeber what the Lord says about forgivenes also and follow the example of Christ Jesus and the diciples.

I'm agnostic but as someone who is well read on the subject of Christianity might i suggest you ask god for for some humility, because to even suggest something like that in itself is indeed a sin who exactly do you think you are thinking god himself would grace you of all people with an appearance you need to eat a piece of humble pie my Friend you are rather arrogant

God or Jesus would do nothing against what they have taught. The Old Covenant tells us stories of how He (God)
chose to deal with the evil of that particular time. From what we know it was a horrific time of evil and barbaric practices and was fought against in the same way as the saying, "fight fire with fire."
Jesus taught another way to fight against this evil and if true Christians would practice what He taught this world would be a better place. He taught, Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
In this day and time if someone said Jesus or God spoke to them and told them to commit an act of violence I would say this person is in need of serious mental help.

not everyone is crazy who kill, because they have been brainwashed .or hear voices in their heads.
this has always been the danger with fanatical followers of a manipulative controlling religion ,like Islam or Christianity.

and this is exactly the purpose of these religions ,to create large crowds of mentalily controlled slaves ,who can be ordered to do anything (make war and bomb women and little children for example),or who can except death(paradise is waiting)if they need to be killed because they have become obselete and are using too many resources.
you should get out while you can ,but you sound to far gone already.like thousands of others

It is sad to see this pathetic mindset no wonder so many of you cry why would god create bad why did he let this happen, wake up. you are a powerful entity with boundless abilities and potential stop hiding behind an imaginary friend and take responsibility for your own actions and decisions like the rest of us, only mentally ill blame god for hurting others and they live in locked units away from the rest of society where they belong

Well, I have to admit that the God of the OT was not a Big Softie. But if I was asked to ? No. No thank you, that wouldn't be Jesus nor my version of the Divine speaking to me. Perhaps the little whacked voice at the back of my head maybe but not Jesus.
