because you have to exercise more than you eat. Say i ate 30 calories than i would have to burn about 60 calories to get back to normal. You have to burn more calories than you eat.

It's easier to stuff your face than to get up and go exercise. If you want to lose weight decrease portion size and calories. You can still eat health foods and gain weight. Most people just eat bigger portions than what they should. So scale back those portions and eat slower and actually sit down with a friend or spouse to eat. When you sit down with someone while you eat you don't eat as fast and will feel full without realising it. And sometimes hunger can be mistaken for thirst. Find an exercise that is fun like riding a bike, walking with a friend, playing with the kids etc. Also, take the stairs more often than the elevator. It is unhealthy and not safe to lose more than 2 to 3 pounds a week.

Actually, at four weeks per month, in six months, you could lose 48 lbs in six months. Your body should be able to metabolize 2 lbs of fat per week. This depends on whether you coordinate diet with excersise, and to what extent, but the potential is there.
It comes down to genetics and how much of what you consume. The average American consumes too much of the wrong kinds of food. If we would cut simple carbs and fats and just run a little bit, we could become quite a bit healthier.
Again though, it depends on your genetics as well. I can't put weight on to save my life. I'm a coat-hanger with skin, and organs.
Remember one thing for me. If you are a healthy person, without physical or genetic restrictions, you should be able to shed some weight with a little bit of effort. This may be hard to believe, but from someone who used to HATE running, you can learn to like it if you just stick with it for a few weeks.

That is a good question. Maybe because you are what you eat. If you eat healthier you wouldn't gain 40 pounds in 6 months.

It takes discipline and self denial to lose weight. It takes self indulgence to gain weight. Plus you get to eat lots of ice cream!

Because it's not work to shove cookies and processed foods into your mouth but it's work to exercise.
