Where do you get "church" in that section of the Apocalypse? Ekklesia is not found between the 3rd and 22nd chapters, so the word isn't in the text. There are no references to Christians in the passage except that the woman is drunk on their blood.
Ekklesia in the New Testament NEVER refers to a building or meeting place. Church in scripture is always people so hagiois and ekklesia are usually synonyms in the New Testament. Since the only reference in the chapter is to their blood, there certainly is no sense in which the church is described.

Dear Obad,
The Bible is referring to the local churches as the Great Harlot because they have gone a whoring after other gods. Revelation 17 tells us of the present time in which we live (The Great Tribulation) and the apostate church. If you now read Revelation 18, you will see that the Lord is commanding the true believers (those who are really saved) to leave the local congregations because satan is now ruling there (2 Thessalonians 2) and God is sending those that remain there a strong delusion (so that they can be damned). If you read the parable of the wheat and tares you will see that the Lord tells us that children of satan (tares) would also be among the true believers (wheat). Since we cannot see into a person's heart, God has given this commandment to separate the wheat from the tares. You must understand that many people say that they are "Christian" but they have never been born again (Matthew 7:21-23). In fact if youread Revelation 2 and 3 you will find that only about 60 years after Christ's resurrection, the churches were already going astray in doctrine. The Bible is God's wand it must be studied diligently and prayerfully. 1 Corinthians 2:13 tells us how we are to study--comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. If we are to understand anything from the Bible, the Lord has to open our understanding because we do not know anything.
Incidently, the Great Tribulation precedes the second coming of Christ or Judgment Day.

Revelation 17:5, speaks of 'Babylon the Great', the mother of the harlots. This is primarily other religions. These are totally unfaithful to God, and have immoral spiritual relations with false Gods.
Revelation 18:23 and no light of a lamp will ever shine in you again, and no voice of a bridegroom and of a bride will ever be heard in you again, because your traveling merchants were the top-ranking men of the earth, for by your SPIRITISTIC practice ALL the nations were misled.
The Christian churches are counseled in Revelation 2 and 3.

You sound like someone who has scanned the Word, rather than read and studied it. So I'll ask for clarification...
Where exactly in Revelation 17 is the Church, or a church, referred to as a "whore house?" You've made a claim about the content of Scripture, you now need to prove your position.
Or...can you?

Teachings of a certain church, not all seven churches written to in Revelation.
But, in response to your question. When that church was called a whore it meant that
THe church was allowing outside influence to be practiced within the church.
This would be akin to todays churches allowing open unrepentant sinners to teach and preach within the body of Christ. (aldulterers, homosexuals, murderers, thieves- all practicing their weakness of course)
It also meant that the church would compromise Gods will for monetary gain.
That would be akin to todays Churches teaching only fluff and goodness to attract worshippers that wouldnt want to hear about anything bad about themselves or others. Joel olstein comes to mind simply because he tells people to give to him and his church and God will make you financially well off if you believe enough.
This is what is meant by the use of the word whore, simply allowing another to use your body for monetary or another type of gain. The church is the body of Christ, so do not whore it out for any gain. God alone provides for the body of Christ according to acceptance of his will and his way.

I guess because all of the church teaching are not true. I actually think that some of the church preachings are lies. Sorry no disrespect but I do. Like the church says gay people will go to hell. A family member of minds is gay an he is religious. Do you think I will actually believe he will go to hell? I will believe it when God says it

The scriptures are just a bunch of stories created by folks long after Jesus. Pen your own tales, just as credible. Don't worry.
