Consider starting with a film SLR of a make that also sells a digital SLR [DSLR] with the same lens mount. Several do. That way, you can start shooting now with modern equipment, and autofocus lenses, and accumulate lenses that you can use interchangeably when you decide to buy a DSLR. And the price of DSLR's is steadily dropping, as the performance improves.
