It is formed from pa'ra(alongside) and ou-si'a(being; derived from ei'mi', meaning be") So parousia means literally, "being alongside" that is a "presence." It is used 24 times in the New Testament, frequently in regard to the presence or return of Jesus, in connection with his heavenly Kingdom.
