looking for desktop reminder (calendar) for a Mac?

I had some item years ago. I would put in, say, my brother's birthday, and could then set it for any day prior as a reminder. This calendar/reminder did not show but the reminder, when due, popped up on screen the day it had been set to. Using this for a Mac, preferably freeware or shareware. No" sticked not the same.

yeah, iCal. It comes with your Mac. you can set reminders and with all sorts of actions limited only by your imagination. You can have the reminder pop up with a sound, start playing a song from itunes, send an e-mail, open a flie, or run an applescript.
