Somewhere in the options or preferences menu there should be a way a File Associaton tab. Just check off everything so the media player will be the default for everything. I find Windows Media Player 11 to be the best one.

Find a place where most of your media files are listed.

On those that aren't currently matched to your favorite player - right click them.

Choose Open With and select your favorite player.

I use Windows Media Player except with Quicktime.
