Why do all assume I am bashing anyone. I dont care where they go...was just wanting to know WHY they come.

Get off your all's high horse, geez.

Im so sick of all you spineless cowards who are more concerned with what other people think, rather than stand up for what YOU believe in.

Not one of you have given an answer.

Not one. but, you all want to jump on me for asking a simple question. Yet, you have the inability to answer.

Everyone knows everything around here, except the question that was asked.

Amen. I agree that "atheism" is not a religion. The meaning of the word religion is a belief in a higher power or higher being; the belief in a god; to follow or worship a god. Atheists do not believe in God, so why are they in the religion category? Not all atheists (I have a friend who is an atheist and she respects my beliefs), but some of the atheists on this site seem intent on disproving the beliefs of others. Why? Are my beliefs hurting them? No. People who mock or make fun of others usually do so because they have little or no respect for themselves (low self-esteem) - making fun of others makes them feel more important. In my opinion, we should show them love and compassion so they feel better about themselves (but still defend our beliefs).

I would like to think I'm open-minded but that is for others aside from me to decide. I have always found comparative religion and sociology very interesting. I think the two are related more than some people tend to think. I find this board interesting on both of those aspects. I try to be respectful of others when I am here even when I don't receive that back.

As an atheist when someone asks me if I have a religion I say no.. I do not see atheism as a religion. For me it is just a disbelief in supernatural deities and divinity in human beings. I'm sure it is different for every atheist.

For me this is learning about human behavior.. regardless of the subject matter.. I myself don't feel that is hypocritical.

Buddhism can be practised as "spiritual atheism". The topic is called Religion and Spirituality. The questions appear on the front page, not just this section. All mythology is interesting, not just certain types...these are all answers you would have read about 75 times had you used the bar at the top that says "search for questions".

Edit: You rant that no one has given you an answer, just jumped on you for the question...I counted many answers above mine, and I gave 4 myself. Sorry you don't like the ones you got.

Becuz people have a right to opinion & constructive criticism. Where I would agree is that there is really no need for trashing and bashing of each others faith.

I always love to hear "innocent' questions. What I am intolerant of is the hurtful, hateful "sniping" that goes on here...

Maybe they want to come here because they want to learn and know more about other relgions and stuff. Is it wrong to do that??? They are human beings after all, give them a break, you are denying them the freedom to gain knowledge and hear others' opinions by saying that. Be tolerant.

By the way...I'm Muslim. Sooo...ya...you need to clean up your way of thinking. Try to be a little nicer and more tolerant. You're only giving yourself and our religion a bad image by asking a question like that.

: )

Why do non-atheists ask this question in this section every day? Is this question considered religious in nature now?

Atheists tend to be very educated about religions, and their opinions are welcomed and valued. Spirituality isn't always tied to religion as well. Furthermore, this section is under "society and culture," both of which Atheists participate in and are affected by religious beliefs and decisions.

Yeah, it would be hypocritical, but I don't consider atheitism a religion; more of a lifestyle. But for the record, I only bash the christians for their arrogance and hypocracy. I rather like the real Islamic and Muslim religion (not the one that were misinterpreted by the terrorists). It promotes tolerance of other religions, unlike the christian one.

When has it not been a religion.

Any system of belief can be considered a religion.
