Yes and no. The motor in the fan produces a small amount of heat due to the inefficiencies of changing electricity to kinetic energy. So, the room will be just the tiniest bit warmer with the fan on. However, the fan makes the room seem cooler for the same reason that the temperature outside feels cooler when the wind blows. The air movement carries away your body heat, and causes your sweat to evaporate more quickly, making you feel cooler.

If your goal is to be environmentally conscious, turn off the fan when the AC is running. Better yet, turn off the AC and use the fan if you can. If your goal is comfort, use both.

Fans and AC work very well together, the reason being that AC blows cold air inside the room but doesn't have enough power to circulate the air. This causes 'zones' in the room (the part right besides the AC is cold and every other part is hot). The air being an inferior conductor of heat takes longer to transfer the heat.

With a fan on, a homogeneous mixture of air is created, which makes a more comfortable environment for the people inside...

Besides the heat gain of the fan motors, when the air is no longer stratified the walls of the room all exhibit the same delta T to the outside ( adjoining heated/warmer area). With the room being stratified, lets say 78 F at the top and 74 F at the bottom, then the top of the room has a lower thermodynamic driving force for energy to move. See the equation Q=UA(Tinside - Toutside). Where you decrease the delta T, then you save the amount Q is needed to cool the room/space.

The air conditioner wouldn't do any good without a fan. The question is, does the fan IN the air conditioner circulate the air sufficiently, or should a separate fan be used as well.

yes, fan gives more cool air with air conditioner on because it helps in circulating the air around the room otherwise when fan is off the cool air which is heavier than hot air remains at the bottom of the room & the lighter hot air remain around the roof

I'm with the dude who said you can turn the fans off if the AC
is on. Unless you want to feed the camel in the Middle East, save some money & resources, let's keep the fans off.
